18/12/2009 11:30 | Apologies to sds shareholders as this is slightly off-topic. Goldeneye - a glance at CDG's share price says that it is obvious that your "mark my words" isn't being heeded by the market in general! I have been watching mineral (as well as O & G) exploration activity in Ireland for over 30 years. There have been several gold plays that have petered out. Environmental concerns will, in my view, ensure that mining and the associated dirty extraction process won't happen here. The extrememly low concentrations at which AU occurs in rock (I mean relative to the concentrations for metals such as Pb, Zn and Cu) mean that huge amounts of ore have to be processed to extract relatively tiny amounts of gold. The consequential impact on the terrain and the environmental risks are clear. Any mining major will be well aware of this and will have had an eye on the massive local difficulties that Shell are facing in attempting to bring gas ashore in Co. Mayo. Neither CDG nor Conroy himself are taken seriously here in Ireland. A difficult man to deal with - the Galmoy lead-zinc mine could only be developed when it was finally taken out of his hands. The lessons for SDS and for us, its shareholders, in relation to the Bantry licence - barite is possible and perhaps silver too. But write the gold totally out of the equation. | benchmark
16/12/2009 23:17 | Benchmark, you are wrong about ANY part of Ireland as CDG will will see gold mined in monaghan within a few years, mark my words. If not CDG, then a major that buys them out. Not sure what to make of SDS, i will keep them on my watch list. Thought either SDS or KDR might have done something in finland, but looks like this has faded away. | goldeneye5
02/12/2009 12:54 | I hold Sunrise shares. However, regarding the Bantry prospect people should not get too optimistic about any mention of silver or gold. Quite the opposite in fact because the chances of gold (in particular)ever been mined in this part of Ireland (or indeed ANY part of Ireland) is zero. I say this as an Irish citizen living here and one who is well aware of environmental issues and concerns. Much as I would like Sunrise to do well, they certainly wont be mining gold in west Cork. The barite is prospective though and there is a deep-water jetty in Bantry Bay already in existence within a couple of miles of the licence area which would facilitate export. | benchmark
25/11/2009 13:27 | Shame I cant get the reports, getting an error | hyper al
25/11/2009 13:20 | Barite area is about 5km east of coast, to the East of Bantry Think it could be PL Area Number 4033 | hyper al
25/11/2009 11:54 | you think there is gold in them hills? | tomboyb
25/11/2009 11:50 | don't know hyper. it does seem interesting though. how far it is from the shipping facilities i do not. if it is possible it would be a direct supplier without real shipping costs. and it will boil down to that. if i recall some shipping activity fell from $250000 a trip tp $4000. but that was at the pinnicle of the economic collapse. it has recovered significantlt although to what extent i have quite followed that through. | tomboyb
25/11/2009 11:45 | The greatest assets this project has is the fact it is near the coast and mining has already taken place in the past. I think it could work if the capex is low, but I can't see it making big profits because of the low transport costs from India. If it was in the UK i.e. outside the euro then demand could come from local users as imports become expensive. I see a lot of mines in the UK opening (maybe with government grants) as the cost of imports escalates. To be honest I am far more excited about the other minerals (silver, gold) covered by the licence. I know for a fact that gold is found around Bantry Do we have a map of the licence area? "Sunrise Diamonds plc ("Sunrise" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that it has been granted a Prospecting Licence for base metals, barite, silver, gold and platinum group elements near Bantry, County Cork, in the south-west of Ireland. " | hyper al
25/11/2009 11:33 | How far is the mine from from shipping/harbour facilities? | hyper al
25/11/2009 11:26 | With the cost of bulk shipping at record lows, I am not sure how this mine could compete with the massive supplies from India. I'm sure Indian suppliers would just undercut any other producer. | hyper al
25/11/2009 11:21 | ta. Hyper Al. will be reading those. what is your opinion. | tomboyb
25/11/2009 11:11 | All the info will supply is in the public domain. A general pdf brochure about UK Barite deposits and uses. The first very important aspect, is are there any aluminium, zinc or lead linked with or adjacent to the Barite, that may be disturbed during mining operations. If there is, environmental issues () may make it uneconomic to extract the Barite or stop permission for mining being granted. Although the SDS deposit has already been mined which should remove any local concerns. The Foss mine near Aberfeldy, Scotland has had to put a lot of effort into stopping these metals getting into the water supply. | hyper al
25/11/2009 10:46 | Hyper both. please tell. | tomboyb
25/11/2009 10:45 | yes first was the de beers diamond project and now an opportu Market Opportunity a New European Producer of Paint-Grade Barite Filler. no other producer aprt from India and China and as said in the RNS. the news starting to flow on this one. | tomboyb
