Maybe the Stobart Group won't be far behind....it's ESL holding is worthless and £50million loan to pay back I think?.....no money left to pay dividends and Southend Airport probably feeling the effects of Coronavirus also. I wonder if a discounted rights issue on the way???

A disaster airline invested in just prior to an airline disaster.....
No one could really have seen the second bit coming but the whole plan is a car crash...

Let's hope that Flybe gets jettisoned and we manage to recover 20% of what we put in? This is thoroughly ridiculous thinking that disaster of an airline company can be saved. We need to focus on Southend - cargo growth - rail&civils. Keep it simple and no "rock'n roll lifestyle" - Richard Bransonesque PR announcements on throwing away our money.

The big error was Flybe.

I had a look at these for the dividend a couple of months ago, have not bought and they have declined since then.

The dividend not supported by earnings until perhaps 2022 means they are just giving away cash off the balance sheet until then.

My interpretation of that is as it is paid out - expect the share price to fall and not recover.

Once earnings support the dividend then the yield may be sustainable - until then it is just returning surplus cash to shareholders.

So I can see why they would look to add something to the business such as Flybe - there may be synergies -but equally the vertical integration means they also take on the risk of not being able to pass on cost increases to the airline.

Effectively Stobart is a bet that in 4 years time they will come up with a profitable business but there are a lot of things that can go wrong/not happen in 4 years.

blue agreed as they deliver operating profits then you get a buffer/recovery - at the moment this is a loss making operating company that is selling off legacy investments.

I said previously that I absolutely hate the current trend for every company to report "underlying " profitability no one ever wants to take responsibility for mistakes so they produce headlines that everything is cool , then you look at actual statutory profits and find they are losing money .... But here it is actually the opposite.

They reported the profit on sale of the stake in Eddie Stobart as ordinary - I note the language in the trading statement refers to Infrastructure / Investments

As if they have a iii style arm ! The ES was presumably inherited from the divestment of the business.

For me the profit from sale in the last accounts was absolutely a one off and that should have been specifically separated out as an exceptional - but they chose to leave it in "normal earnings" - auditors not strong enough !

So that left them with an underlying loss making business and my calcs said it was a long way from there to 18p a year in dividends.

What happens to the dividend if they do invest in Flybe?

I suspect shredding may not be too far off. They don’t have the capital to do pellets, airports and other stuff. The sum of parts is well over 150p, probably nearer £2. Tosca isn’t going to hang around for years waiting.

Lets hope tosca smash this up, get the value out of it and flog it off. Its going nowhere. flybe is a basket case, guernsey subsidises every passenger, ridiculous, will still go bust, sooner the better, rubbish airline anyway. When these were at 250 i said they were a dog gagging to get back to 1.20 and had loads of sxxt on here from morons, well was i right or was i mofo right haha.
