07/9/2018 13:04 | Looks very under-priced at present with buy back and other rather positive developments scheduled for 4Q...so added a few more. Numis,Citi, and others all appear to share the view that there is much up-side in due course...patience needed perhaps, and rotation into sector by some market forces seeing good return with dividend yield etc. | cyberian
07/9/2018 12:30 | Interesting speedsgh, thank you. Although I've never seen dividend cover by balance sheet resources used as a metric before and I'm not sure how sound it is! I think the time has come. And I've decided on these rather than Aviva. | grahamite2
07/9/2018 09:43 | Numis: Standard Life Aberdeen ‘materially undervalued’ - Standard Life Aberdeen (SLA) shares offer ‘deep value’ for patient investors who are being paid well to wait in the meantime, says Numis. Analyst David McCann retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of 430p on the shares, which were trading at 321.4p yesterday. He pointed to the dividend being ‘more than 800% covered by balance sheet resources’, saying this reinforced ‘our view that a dividend cut is an extremely remote possibility’. ‘Thus, with a c.7% yield, we think patient investors buying into the deep value opportunity are paid well to wait,’ said McCann. ‘We reiterate our view that the market is materially undervaluing Standard Life Aberdeen.’ | speedsgh
04/9/2018 08:50 | FWIW I transferred my SIPP out of Scottish Widows, took about 2weeks. I had to get a valuation, then have the sold, plus the time it took for the new province deer to do the necessary background checks to open the new accounts and I am fairly sure HMRC were involved. That was for a six figure sum but only in 3 investments. | dr biotech
03/9/2018 18:26 | Why, mavis? In the day of electronic trading and record keeping I can see no reason these matters should not be pretty much instantaneous. This is not a complaint against SLA specifically but against the industry. Why aren't figures for tax returns available on 6th April every year? It is inexcusable that these things take most providers until July. | grahamite2
03/9/2018 17:07 | excellance, I have a draw-down pension with SLA (and several as yet uncrystallised policies) and I've generally had the funds "drawn-down" within a few days of writing to them to instruct such. Currently transferring a small pension from a previous employer into the SLA and that's progressing OK but I was warned it will take about 3-4 weeks. I'll keep an eye on that. As regards having the cash...... I suspect they do but they're spending it on their own shares :-) Their computers (web site) don't work as well as I believe they should. I've long complained, and to the SLA directly, that the customer site where I can login and check my pension valuations holds incorrect (past) contribution data. Their graph displays of pension holdings also leaves a lot to be desired. In their defence they seem to manage the investment side well - my pensions have performed better than market averages for some time. Long may that last. | mcunliffe1

29/8/2018 18:03 | This is starting to look very good value - once including the Indian businesses, the Phoenix stake and the surplus cash you are almost getting the asset management business for free. Having taken a closer look at the asset management business I don't think this looks too bad either. Clearly their value focus has been out of favour but surely this will change at some point. Yes the big funds have been seeing large outflows, but other funds seem to be doing ok, both in terms of performance and flows. The adviser platforms (elevate and wrap) in particular are great assets. There have also been some large one-off outflows which were inevitable following the merger but shouldn't be an issue going forward. The key thing is they recognise that traditional equity strategies are going to struggle against cheaper passives, so they are actively focused on moving towards alternatives (private equity, real estate, hedge, etc) where there is a strong demand from pension funds and an area where passives can't compete. There should also be further significant cost savings coming down the line which should boost earnings. | riverman77
29/8/2018 16:26 | The old soaks in Singapore have been living off a reputation of a decade or more ago..maybe they know where the bodies are buried. | meijiman
29/8/2018 16:04 | As it's not stemmed fund outflows, besides cost savings, the rational looks tenuous. | essentialinvestor
29/8/2018 15:26 | Perhaps suggests that SL should not have done a deal with Aberdeen? | meijiman
29/8/2018 15:09 | In fairness it's not just SLA, look at the share price of Invesco, Franklin Resources etc, all at multi year lows. The passive funds are sweeping up massive swathes of capital. | essentialinvestor
29/8/2018 15:01 | Hopefully the business can be better managed than the Aberdeen Investment Trusts as their performance compared to the bench marks over the last 5 years is abysmal. | scrwal
29/8/2018 14:50 | Graham, there may ultimately be value here, PHNX, India ventures etc. However, the recent statement makes it very clear their asset management model is under threat, they spell it out. This is not without major risk imv. | essentialinvestor
