Over the past year, Canaccord said Star has turned around "a declining UK production profile" for the first time in many years, through a combination of greater focus on incremental low-cost enhancements to well performance and significantly improved surface facilities efficiencies and uptime. "That has clearly borne fruit over the past 12+ months, and we think there is plenty of scope to maintain that elevated performance at least over the next few years. That is important because while the company sees longer-term growth through its geothermal businesses, it is the UK conventional hydrocarbons that provide the backbone of cashflow in the nearer-term," said Canaccord. The Canadian bank thinks the progress made by Star in the UK and in Croatia was "substantial", and certainly not reflected in its recent market performance. However, the analysts trimmed their risked NPV10 target price to reflect the slow pace of progress of the UK geothermal business but still think the company's valuation footing has "improved significantly" over the past year. |

Posted at 12/10/2023 10:36 by sea7 Thanks SI199,I am of the same view, it is so undervalued - and the reason for that is that o and g investors are not interested, because of their stated plan to be full green geo thermal and green investors aren't going into it, because of the o and g assets. the fact that they state that they are shutting in non economic wells, rehabilitating land, relinquishing land that they were holding and making the o and g portfolio as attractive as possible, means they are getting ready to sell it all. once the o and g is sold, the company will attract the green investors, who will buy up the stock that is being sold by the remaining o and g investors that still hold. the balance sheet tells you, that the o and g assets are worth multiples of the current price - so, those guys are most likely going to be right. |

Having increased expenditure to concentrate on maxing out production from its existing portfolio, production rose by just over 11% on 2022 1H as the run-off of the estate continues. From now on it is going to be a really interesting play, as the statement says the Government white paper calls for joint working on the industry and to ‘move quickly’ to unlock its potential. Star have been an early mover here so I imagine that they will be able to be leaders in the sector in the public sector especially as they have been investing time, money and human resources in it. If not, killing the fatted calf may prove to be a fateful decision, investors will have to decide whether to wait around for the results, something that may take a very long time. The shares are down some 90% since the high earlier this year so it looks like investors would rather watch from the outside. |
