Sikhthetech and "Finger on the Pulse".. Jasdan. Your missing my point. Coronavirus will be an utter disaster for the Global Economy. The entire stock markets around the globe will get re-rated. All stocks will fall accordingly. Stanley Gibbons which is a small cap , illiquid, basket case will get hammered !
Unless of course it stops or they find a cure tomorrow ?
you can of course pile in with your money if you think that, make yourselves a fortune !

I believe SG gets hardly any of its turnover from China, sales there are very limited.
In the internet age, and with the ongoing bad weather, who is going to bother doing anything other than internet bidding / purchasing?
Apparently SG's January auctions were a sell out due to the number of internet bids.

Super,

"I was only highlighting a potential problem for Stanley Gibbons over Coronavirus."

There is a huge impact on companies dependent on supplies from China, tourism, already suffering retailers, financial markets, sporting events etc

The stock markets are likely to suffer further...

So I think we'll see many companies issuing profit warnings because of Covid-19..
Will it affect online auctions? No, if anything those philatelists who have to self-isolate will probably have more time and look at that hobby they haven't look at for a while, resulting in more sales for SGI... ;-)

Who knows???

It will be an interesting next week.
We didn't have to wait two weeks, for Coronavirus to develop all over the great EU ! and I have just read a further 12 confirmed in the UK this afternoon. The first death from coronavirus in the US, and I would imagine the 100,000 confirmed case milestone, will be hit sometime, very early in the week ?.
Will this make SGI plummet further ?... not too sure on that ?. I Would say so, but the stock markets may take a breather ?. I think the Global markets will take a serious lurch downwards in the 30 per cent region, if the number of confirmed cases passes 100,000... 105...110... 115 etc etc.

Jasdan . A bit of stock market education for you.

If you look at Stanleys Chart. That is known as the Bungee Jump pattern.

Sikhthetech. I was only highlighting a potential problem for Stanley Gibbons over Coronavirus.
I don't fear death in the slightest, when your time has come to depart, then so be it.
I think free movement of people within the EU should assist its spread ? but you will see if that is the case within two weeks.
Does anyone have any opinion on the fact that SGI has consumed 14 odd million of its credit facility. ie will it require a further loan to continue ?
I lived in London for 10 years, Coronavirus is the least of its worries . A violent murderous Cesspit !

Looks to me like the !!$! is hitting the fan now about the coronavirus. I can't see us carrying on for another two months like this, we'll all go mad. IF the virus is going to take hold within the next two weeks for example, I think we will see us all going round in masks, but life will have to go on, it is not the bubonic plague after all.

I still think that Stampex will go ahead. The rugby was cancelled but that is next week - it is a bit different.

If Covid-19 takes hold in London, Stampex will be the least of your problems...

Transport system closed, Underground restricted/closed?, Heathrow restricted/closed?

Jasdan . There is no increase in debt. It is a credit facility that is all but consumed.
They paid nothing for the stamps they don't own them.
If Corona takes hold Stampex will be cancelled. It wont be the individuals choice.
Unless the company is now making reasonable profit ?. They will need further credit to continue trading.
Regards

Re Stampex 2020, if it does go ahead, given the generally older clientele attending the event, many of whom look forward months in advance to it, I cannot see them not attending.

This sort of event has a lot of loyal followers. Items on sale are often advertised in advance on exhibitors own websites, and people come along to then see the item in person. Few attend such a show to pick up a range of heavy catalogues for example. Internet sales are now increasingly important for any large dealer, and I believe in SG's case, make up an increasing proportion of their trading.

Certainly when I want one of their catalogues, I now tend to wait and buy it on their site combining it with other purchases as their postage rate tends to be fixed. The postage rate is cheaper than me going along to the store. I would guess others must be in the same position. With the CV, more of us will make internet purchases only.

Yes, I noted the increased debt. But that £14m includes the £1.1m paid for the 780 items so am not sure if this so bad at all - we would expect them to account for the purchase somewhere, and if Phoenix are willing to give them 7 years to repay the deal, then why not add it to the debt pile?

Also, I believe the costs of the refit at 399 were added onto the debt pile so this is probably an exceptional period with debt highlighted before credit items come in.

Refit should be finished next month.

Superior, regarding the auctions, there is nothing at all to stop them listing some of these items in one of their own auctions but with a set reserve price equal to what they paid or perhaps +20% to guarantee a profit if sold?

Well that's a reasonable reply for you !
A few points for you.
Unless Coronavirus stops tomorrow . Stampex is likely to be a failure, attendance wise. The incredibly successful EU has stated, they will not condone any restrictions of movement in their area of huge economic growth and prosperity. They call it the Schengen area, One of the wonders of the European Union . So come May Coronavirus should be all over Europe more than a bad rash !
The stock market is falling rapid, SGI will get caned if it continues.

They only get commission for selling the stamps, they didn't purchase them as stated in the RNS. They would be unable to sell them in the Auctions as they are not allowed to discount them without agreement from the owner.
The real important thing though. Look at the RNS it states. As at 19 February 2020 , 14.1 million had been drawn down under the loan agreement. Is it correct that they have about 900,000 left ?.. I think unless profits have powered ahead ??. They will need a further loan from Phoenix to continue.

Superior, I'm still in here.

For me I want to see the full year results, since end of March concludes the 2019 year for SG, hopefully their results will be out in late April and re-confirm the recovery first mentioned in the half year results was getting stronger and more embedded.

I also want to see how the rebranding and upgraded premises is going to work out for them. Personally, I thought the recent RNS was positive for SG as it provided them with many more scarce items to sell, and the terms of the deal were as cushy as is possible. Seven years to sell 780 items? They could sell them all next week in an auction if necessary, but I can see the wisdom in waiting.

There's also Stampex 2020 soon in May which should hopefully also boost things.

It looks to me like there's a lot to play for here potentially.

Time to buy shares in whichever company makes face masks. Perhaps SG could bring out a range with stamp designs emblazoned on them?

Take everything into account when investing.
The Superbowl is on this weekend. If their is a fair portion of the media types and the Luvvie's all wearing masks ?. This will have a very negative effect on the markets Monday, especially if coupled with bad statistics out of China over the weekend.
