Global absolute return strategy fund. It's their biggest fund which tries to return a steady but positive return and is recommended for cautious investors. And its huge, but has been underperforming recently...hence the outflow

What is GARS? It is mentioned in lots of documents and presentations and seems to be causing large fund outflows, but I can't find a definition of it. Thanks in anticipation. bb

Barclays: issues still remain at Standard Life -

A meeting with Standard Life (SL) chief financial officer Luke Savage has reiterated to Barclays why its merger with Aberdeen Asset Management (ADN) will be beneficial although its analysts believe there are still underlying issues at both companies.

Analyst Alan Devlin retained his ‘underweight’ recommendation and target price of 344p on Standard Life, which rose 9.3p or 2.4% to 398.6p yesterday. Aberdeen advanced 14p or 5% to 299.7p.

He said Savage gave a ‘robust defence’ of the benefits of the merger and that it would ‘accelerate Standard Life’s asset and geography diversification agenda by five to six years’.

‘We do concur the deal is financially compelling, with the majority of the financial synergies dropping to the bottom line, even allowing for modest net revenue dis-synergies,’ said Devlin.

‘Strategically, we believe large active fund managers will continue to merge to offset the threat from passive fund managers. However, the deal doesn’t change the underlying issues at both franchises – outflows in their key franchises – GARS for Standard Life and emerging markets for Aberdeen – and hence we remain 'underweight' Standard Life.’

Heads or tails ? Posting heads does not make you an expert.

Posting heads while explaining that a coin is weighted or has two heads is useful.

Otherwise it's a waste of time.

From Bloomberg;"Standard Life Plc said it may pursue an initial public offering of its Indian joint venture if a plan to merge the unit with another company falls through. The country's regulator has expressed concerns about HDFC Life's potential merger with and Max Life Insurance Co. since last year. On Thursday, the Indian insurers said they remain committed to doing a deal and are evaluating various options. In a later statement, Standard Life said there's no certainty that any such options are viable."In which case, Standard Life intends to propose an IPO of HDFC Life at the earliest possible opportunity, subject to appropriate market conditions," the company said.Standard Life was little changed in London trading, after gaining as much as 2.6 percent earlier".DONT KNOW WHERE THEY GOT THE 2.6% INCREASE AT ANY TIME......

Not quite self liquidation but a liquidating investment trust has had a mandatory offer....

I think this creates a good opportunity to make some relatively easy money - if they offer more then sell for more - if not, if you can get in low enough its very low risk for your return...

Unfortunately (?) stock up quite strongly now but it might fall back...
