You were right about following the buyback support and adding. That move yesterday put SSL above the 200 day moving average (currently at 5.40CAD). There's a saying 'bulls live above the 200dma and bears live below it'.

Interest in SSL building up nicely with POG. This will only increase when the index funds start to re-balance in September

TD Direct Investing have been taken over by Interactive Investor. TD Direct advised me before the transfer that I had sell most of my Canadian listed miners, hence I have Transfered to Hargreaves Landsdown.

Interactive Investor are still keeping the TD Direct trading platform, but it is Interactive Investor who own it. I certainly do not want anything to do with Interact Investor hence I have transferrd PDQ.

This is the latest from 'gold mining bull' on seeking alpha. He is often my first 'go to' if I'm looking into something new on the other side. He has a good way of balancing the bullish with the negative and doesn't try to hide it if he makes a bad call. He was always keen on SSL but turned cautious after it bought MARL. He's less negative - or baffled - than he was at first but still cautious about too many eggs in one basket.

Out of interest, when did TD tell you you had to sell "most" of your Canadian miners?

And why can you keep some of them?

New presentation on the SSL website:

Very positive outlook. On Seeking Alpha site (sorry, cannot copy) there's the transcript of the conference call. Most interesting are the details of the share buy-back starting agressively next week, in order to mop up cheap equity before the ETFs start rebalancing their portfolios in Sept/Oct. Might be a good time to Follow their lead!

Sandstorm Q2 financials out yesterday. Bit dull and disappointing at first sight, but I'm off to see what the blokes on Seeking Alpha have to say about them. More later....

Hi Shavian. I don't know much about Yamana except it used to get a lot of mentions in Chronic Investor years ago and I thought at the time 'good company to invest in one day.' The name stuck in my mind so when it gets a mention among the huge Canadian universe of mining stocks it rings a bell when a lot of the names go in one moment and out the next. I haven't got the slightest detail to back it up but I got the impression recently it isn't particularly well managed. Almost certainly I got this from Otto IKN and that's the place to look for further detail. I could be completely wrong and doing them an injustice

No worries HH. Like you I was curious about the 'blocking stake' comment. I had been in MARL in a small way for ages and had just about given up on them when the HM project came along, so started adding a few more. Then these Sandstorm blokes took an interest so I bought a few of those as well. I thought SSL had about 7% of MARL plus the royalty in HM itself which it had bought as part of a dusty old package from Teck. Hardly a 'blocking stake', but then WTFDIK? A lot was going on behind the scenes it seems. Anyway, more by luck than judgement I was in both of the right places at the right time.

What have you got against Yamana by the way? Just curious.

That's just what I was thinking.

There was such a lot in that video. The things that come to mind right now are 1) those comments about SSL taking a 'blocking stake' in MARL - is it me or does it suggest that the merger was in their mind from very early on 2) that GDXJ will need to buy more SSL for their re-balancing in September to take account of the merger 3) that interest of institutions in the gold sector has dissipated to 2015 levels 4) the potential of Cerro Moro, as you mentioned 5) the 'Sandstorm effect' leading investors to the different companies. There was so much.

A couple of other points. First, I'll clarify that I mean point 3 as an indirectly positive indication but isn't it a relief that it doesn't matter an iota whether I meant it positively or negatively. Any of us or somebody else can be as positive or negative as we like and it doesn't matter because volume is so large that nothing we say or do can make the slightest difference to share price. After being on AIM with all its bulletin board trolls talking small volume shares up and down it feels more relaxed.

Second, after hearing about Cerro Moro I thought of maybe investing in the company that has it. It turned out to be Yamana. That stopped me. I can't remember where I got the impression and it may be wrong but once I saw that I dropped the idea.

One more thing, if somebody is interested in the North American scene, this site is real eye-opener and a lot of people hate this guy for being outspoken. It has a daily newsletter and the search the site box is really useful.

hxxp://incakolanews.blogspot.co.uk/ or google 'Otto IKN'

The first article today is about Yamana. I didn't know that until I clicked it - honest - but I think we can see where I got that bad impression from.

Been droning on at too much length. Sorry.

Shavian - thanks, and thanks for the advice on how to enjoy. I think that's my next hour sorted out. NB. Not being sarcastic. Actually needed something to settle down with in the next hour. Came at the right time.

EDIT. Later. Shavian - this has not gone well. I made a mug of tea, settled down - as instructed - turned on the video and there was no sound. Googling problem and hands and knees among the wiring behind the desktop. Completely ruined the 'settle down' bit and tea has gone cold. But sound on now and about to listen.

EDIT. Later. That was very interesting all the way through. Well worth listening to. Thanks for the recommendation.

Epic new 40-min interview with Nolan on WallSttoMainSt on the SSL site:

Covers all sorts of good background stuff on where the mining industry is heading, and why Sandstorm's positioning makes it the strongest growing streaming company, and why the share buy-backs will reduce the HM dilution from 19% to 14%.

Very interesting comments about the recent GDXJ rebalancing and the 15% dip in SSL share price which resulted. The index funds will now have to buy back SSL at their next quarterly rebalancing endSeptember, which will happen post-the HM acquisition. All looks very positive for SSL imo.

Also some interesting snippets about Cerro Morro close to the end of the interview.

Set aside some quiet time, make yourself a large cuppa, and enjoy!

Jim - I like it, too. Thinking of it for long term, steady growth and a kind of proxy for GDXJ or other gold ETFs. I also hold some FNV for the same reason and that's supposed to be safe as houses but it's a roller-coaster ride at the moment. I think FNV is paying the price of having been too popular. Hoping to keep adding to both over years on dips and hold it for a long, long time.

Herbert - Sandstorm is my second largest investment (after CEY) and I think it's a very good investment opportunity, especially at the current price.

Jim, Shav - thanks for those links. It's good to see other posters on a UK board taking an active interest in North American stocks. That SSL update couldn't have been better timed for the boost gold got after the Fed meeting yesterday.

I don't know if you know about it already or are interested but there's a Canadian company called Cornerstone Capital Resources (CGP on the TSXV). The reason I'm mentioning it is it's in a similar position to SOLG as MARL was to Lidya and later to SSL but in a much better negotiating position.

I put some of my old MARL holding in it. It might be worth a look if you feel like casting the net a bit wider.

Thanks again for those links.

Just checked my Transact accounts to see that SSL has paid out for MARL and more than doubled my existing holding in SSL shares, not SAND as I had been fearing. Brilliant job. A quick calc shows that my net take-out price for MARL was £1.05. And we still have Glen on board to develop Cote D'Ivoire and Argentina. Job done. :0))
