03/3/2021 14:00 | Here is a pre-budget comment I found interesting for the likes of SRT, which can benefit from the patent box scheme. How much is the question? 'The UK Budget, due next week, is widely expected to raise corporation tax from 19% to 25% over the next few years. The Patent Box tax break allows UK companies to pay a reduced corporation tax rate of 10% on income from patented products. The expected increase in corporation tax would significantly shift the cost-benefit analysis in favour of filing patents. Any costs associated with obtaining a patent portfolio would presumably be offset by the greater savings on offer. We have already seen that the Patent Box is not just for the the largest blue-chip companies. The benefits are also substantial for many of our SME clients. It remains to be seen whether the Patent Box regime itself will be adjusted in the Budget. There are rumours are of a simplification to the system- many will recall that pressure was put on the UK Government under EU state aid rules, which are less of a concern post-Brexit. Whatever happens, the Patent Box should be on the radar of innovative companies looking to reduce their tax burden.' | lavalmy

22/2/2021 11:14 | Thank you LaValmy. What 'caught my eye' was a tugboat in the Port of Vitoria, (Brasil) called "MA 500TR" which on searching gave 'MA-500TR Class B AIS Transponder by Icom America' | piedro
22/2/2021 10:41 | @Piedro How does this square with regulations and does it limit their target market? "Silent Mode Operate securely and privately with the silent mode function. Switch off the AIS transmitter to temporarily stop sending out position location. Other AIS signal reports art still received when silent mode is on. Keep fishing spots privately from other vessels by utilizing silent mode." | cliffpeat

18/2/2021 23:13 | Interesting find ! Dainton was head RN man on the ground in Bahrain for the couple of years (mid 17 > mid 19) which likely overlap with SRT's securing its contract and subsequent implementation. hxxps://www.linkedin | extrader

16/2/2021 17:58 | Did ST give any indication of year end numbers or was it kept ‘high level’? | pinkfoot2
16/2/2021 16:51 | They still want to sell a bunch of buoy trackers to Scotland. But overall the UK has very few fishing boats. It is less than a 1,000 on the VMS currently. Mind you, once SRT takes off, Brenda will be handing out export awards for exporting from Cork and the charlatans will be queueing up for photo opps. | lavalmy
16/2/2021 16:37 | I don’t know if I’m remembering this right, but when the subject of overseas sales being long-winded was brought up ages ago (webcast question ?) I’m sure ST said something that implied the UK was one of the worst. If so maybe thats why not made a fuss about selling here. Got no money now anyway. | yump
16/2/2021 16:27 | I don't know Cliff if that is entirely true. I remember that in Vietnam the UK ambassador was trying to help SRT get some funding from a UK space fund to pay for their system. Of course, SRT wasn't in the best position to win that sort of funding even though they were toying with the idea of having their own satellites at the time. OTOH, I never got a reply from the person at Defra who was asking for comments on their (EU funded) expansion of VMS to cover the inshore fleet. If you remember, they had already decided to try a mobile phone system. I wrote to suggest that they use SRT's which was at that stage being installed in the Philippines as the world's largest VMS (and soon to get much larger). I don't think they had heard of them. I also don't think that much has happened on this project either. Some 1,500 boats or so. | lavalmy
16/2/2021 16:11 | Interesting half hour discussion on the analysis of satellite and other data being collected to understand and safeguard the oceans and monitor fishing activities. EP25 Infinite Leaders: Nick Wise, CEO at OceanMind: Using AI to protect and safeguard our oceans [...] Oceanmind is a subsidiary of Satellite Applications Catapult Ltd - close connections with HMG. Why does it feel as if the UK "establishment" ignores and/or doesn't engage with our SRT (for money)? #AI #Machinelearning #IllegalFishing | cliffpeat
