21/6/2018 08:22 | 'High density areas in the Gulf of Mexico and South China Sea have always been difficult for detection rates, due to the volume of vessels in close proximity ...Moving forward, with the combined coverage of both terrestrial and exactView RT Satellite AIS services, customers will see far greater detection rates than any other service on the market.' And that means that even Class A is difficult when there are lots of boats, let alone Class B's. And then add encrytion, which most of the projects are expected to have ... As Tucker has said, once they have the system in, they own it. Edit: Come to think of it, it must mean that eE have difficulty in busy areas and need the addition of terrestrial data to come anywhere close - terrestrial will always have fewer incidences of conflicting signals on the same slot. | lavalmy

18/6/2018 19:00 | I think they will announce the contract once signed and in some detail. During the fundraising they said that the customer was re-allocating the budget from a foreign loan to internal funds and that was the cause of the delay in the official signing. They also only expect payments to commence after this process is completed. In the fundraing presentation, they are expecting to be paid some £17 million this year which seems to include the £8.5 mn invoiced last year and roughly the same again this current financial year. Depending on how much SRT have yet to pay for the kit already delivered, this is in the range of an £8.5-£12 WRT to contracts, on the one hand, yes they are important and the auditors will be keen to see that they have one, even if it is changed later on. On the other hand, they have stressed repeatedly that with these governments contracts don't mean very much at all as they can be changed, cancelled, ignored etc with little recourse for the little guy (though I doubt if the little guy can pull off the same stunts). This aspect might change with the proposed use of UK Export Finance schemes, as the UK government becomes the creditor in the case of non-payment for contractual deliveries. I, for one, think that they are much better off using this sort of thing - they exist for good reasons. | lavalmy
18/6/2018 16:00 | Are we actually expecting a contract announcement for the Philippines? I'm confused because we seem to have billed and been paid for a fair wedge by 'a south east asian project' which would seem to be the Philippines, but as far as I'm aware we don't have a contract with them yet. Is this normal? | fredfishcake

15/6/2018 07:21 | AIS is mostly terrestrial and is very much expected to remain so. A mobile phone network is similar in this respect. Satellite coverage of Class A signals is more or less a commodity. Reliable reception of Class B devices by satellite is a major problem because of the limited number of slots and large number of signals in a 5,000 radius footprint. SRT have worked round this. | lavalmy

14/6/2018 17:58 | Has anyone taken a look at the M2M satellite company Orbcomm. Listed in the USA and apparently the biggest pure play M2M (no voice) operator out there. They are active in AIS and growing their subscriber base strongly. Whilst not offering complete systems they appear to be a key enabler and a competitor to SRT. | lateralthinker
