30/9/2006 07:15 | Another one of SOP's boxers loses : British light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore is ready to hit the fast track to the top after defending his title in thrilling style in Manchester last night. Just over 12 months on from his memorable 2005 Fight of the Year which saw him reclaim the belt against Michael Jones, the Salford southpaw dug deep to win another war of attrition at the GH Carnall Leisure Centre as he stopped brave challenger Matthew Macklin. Moore dished out, and withstood, a barrage of punches before unleashing a huge left hand that knocked out his opponent in the 10th. And now he has called on promoter Frank Maloney to help him realise his potential and deliver him a crack at the big time. "I've said to Frank he had better get me a world title shot soon because I am done when I am 30," the 27-year-old told PA Sport. "I love doing what I do and I love putting on a show like that but I want to go out of boxing the way I came in - with my marbles intact - so I am on a fast track now. "I'll give this title up now, I've been at this level too long. "I want Sky (TV) to back me and try to get me a European title shot next. If not then I want an eliminator for a legitimate world title." On this showing, there may not be too many world champions keen to take the Manchester fighter on. Moore was simply unrelenting as he teed off to both head and body while in return he took everything that Macklin had to offer as the challenger piled forward throwing barrages of his own. When the decisive punch came it was enough to knock Macklin spark out, although he thankfully regained consciousness quickly after being treated by paramedics in the ring. The Birmingham puncher was subsequently taken to hospital for checks but was believed to be sitting up and talking in the ambulance as he recovered from an exhausting fight. Afterwards, Moore was quick to pay tribute to his beaten opponent, adding: "Matthew was unbelievable. I am going to see him now in the hospital. "I knew that was the sort of performance he would bring and I knew that it would take a lot to get him out of there. "The shot that finished it off was just perfect. I didn't expect him to go out the way he did but in the end I think it was just exhaustion. "At the end I congratulated him and told him what a tough man he was and he said the same about me. But, 100%, he'll come back and win the British title." Hirsch....i heard you committed suicide...get busy get busy!!!!! | nigelbennn | |
