21/3/2006 19:28 | Interesting stuff there hirsch about young Grant, and earlier re Hatton & Warren. Pity isn't it that guys in the fight game, boxers or promoters never learn to grow up, they are like big kids and seem to cherish grudges and if they didn't have any would go out of their way to find some. Strange how the price is moving north so steadily. One would normally put it down to anticipation of the results but here the daily volumes are so slim. Ain't gonna complain tho' FB/NB - If you are not on board you are a chump as you don;t see an opportunity like this which has been right in your face whilst you been rabbiting. tt edit Just took a look at the trades for today and can see only two trades and both genuine sells so despite that price gone up which tells us that some broker has put a large order in, hang in there boys and hold on.. | tingtang
21/3/2006 17:52 | Trainer Tunde Ajayi isn't known for hyperoble - but even he can't help getting excited by one of the newer additions to the professional ranks, four-time schoolboy champion Grant Skehill. The 20-year-old, who learned his trade at the Finchley and District Amateur Boxing Club, is poised to make his Sports Network debut* as a welterweight later this year with Ajayi in his corner. "I'm telling you, this is the one," said Ajayi. "This boy doesn't do knockdowns, he does knockouts. He's been leaving them unconscious. "And unlike some big punchers he's also got a great chin as well. We've been working on his defence for two months, but he's never been on the floor as an amateur or in the gym. "The other week I let him spar with someone a bit bigger, and he was taking some decent digs without any problem. "He's got a similar aggressive, physical style to Ricky Hatton, he's got a tremendous work-rate and a fantastic left hook. "In the last two months he has knocked three professionals out in the gym and I've had people ringing me up telling me he is the best young boxer they have seen in years. "I'm pleased because he went to quite a few gyms before finally coming to me." Skehill, who boxed in India, America, Hungary, Russia and Israel as an amateur, spent 18 months out of the gym after suffering a bad break to his hand. But Ajayi believes the time off has done him some good. "Grant is raring to go," he said. "He just wants to get out there and box again, he's raring to go." * Subject to Skehill being licenced by the British Boxing Board of Control. | hirschnathan

21/3/2006 08:27 | Hirsch did some research yesterday for you buffoons : 1/ Rumour has it Frank Maloney split with SOP as the company could not afford his fees. 2/ Rumour has it a remaining consultant is soon to lose his position. 3/ Rumour has it Calzaghe may follow Hattons footsteps and fight under a new promoter in the states to finish his career. It appears turnover has lowered dramatically and there has to be huge cuts in overheads. Look out for a big red soon all you bed wetters....get busy get busy!!!!! | nigelbennn

20/3/2006 18:30 | Amir Khan's global appeal was highlighted this weekend when he appeared on the front cover of the New York Times magazine. The NYT carried a feature-length profile ofKhan, focusing on his third fight against Steve Gethin in Glasgow. British boxers are rapdily gaining unprecedented levels of respect from the US following wins for Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe over world-rated opponents on Sports Network shows. Promoter Frank Warren also cracked America with Naseem Hamed, and is hoping to do the same with Khan. "This article shows just how popular Amir is, not only in the UK but in America as well," said Warren. "As he moves up to championship class his fan base will continue to grow, and he can become one of the most recognised sportsman - let alone boxers - in the world." Meanwhile IBF/WBO super-middleweight champion Calzaghe is set to feature on the front page of The Ring magazine following his recent win over Jeff Lacy. To read the NYT article | hirschnathan
