@DiscoDave4

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like he's planning on taking the company private sometime after the buyback has completed.

If that's October the highest share price would then be nearer 320p.

Food for thought none the less.

No Sir
Been on my watch list for a while though but don't have a strong enough view to commit on way or the other

Sort of thinking that no position is a position.

ps Not too "strategic" though for SPD as they could'nt be bothered to tell their shareholders themselves - saved a few hundred quid on an RNS I suppose.

"GAME is pleased that the strategic value of the group has been recognised by Sports Direct through this acquisition of a 25.75% stake."Net Asset Value 80p, Net Tangible Asset Value 49p. it's a good punt for Mike but shouldnt get too carried away with a potential £10m profit..........peanuts. Still feel he is just playing and spending shareholders cash to get assets on the books. Buyback another 3 million shares instead, why waste time and effort on a piddling investment like GMD.DD

GMD Doesn't look a bad move, although IMO MA needs to focus on the core business which is in a worse state than GMD.Following the recent profit warning I guess GMD could decide to trim, yet again, the number of stores over the next 18 months by letting their worst leases expire (they have 220 lease events) without hitting their exceptional costs too much - perhaps MA has this in mind and may decide to cherry pick for additional SPD bricks and mortar although why is beyond me tbh (apart from the very short lease periods, average is 1.2 years).GMD may be a nice value punt (hate to agree with Useless though but profit is profit).DD

Have just been reading about Game. It's cash is greater than its market cap and it has no debt and very short leases. May trade it tomorrow for a small profit, get in on the momentum.

Stake in Debenhams and now Game

Suppose he only needs one or two to come good.

Would cost a few hundred million to take it private !
He seems to have deep pockets at the moment.
Buyback, Debenham stake , stake in Game...the list goes on
Must have spent a small fortune

Make that a large one

stokiemattIn accordance with the Company's Act Mad Mike could re-register SPD as a private company by passing a special resolution of shareholders at a general meeting. Needs 75% majority vote!. Doubt Mike will go this route (what's in it for him? - zero) but who knows. Would assume the same applies if a bid is tabled in terms of notification rather than votes - according to the takeover code MA has more than enough shares to make an offer to the remaining shareholders, and that cash offer for the remaining shares must at least match the highest price paid for the previous 12 months before the offer was announced (as of today 52w high 355p). But Mike wouldn't be trying to deflate the share price surely!!, or cap it by a share buyback, naaaa!.As posted previously, FTSE listed company's have to retain at least 25% free float - if I was holding here I would be checking the impact of the buyback to make sure they don't go below this!!. If they do then wonder what the FCA will do??, do they get booted out of the market automatically and revert to private status as a consequence?.Plenty to think about IMHO.DD
