The trading statement obviously caused the fall yesterday with more likely to come today!

Any thoughts on reasons for 5% fall?

From my understanding, network test is one of SPT's main work. After all tests done for 4G, the next rush will be for 5G, of which none mentions it yet.

Is this fall realistic, granted the niche market of this company? The fall looks exaggerated to me. Are there other factors of which we are not aware? Would be interested to hear any opinions.

A downgrade from UBS yesterday wouldn't have done much good. I also suspect that a big unit such as Blackrock is lightening their load.

I am not a holder as I believe the current valuation is OTT for an ex-growth stock. Around 120 I might be interested again.

Anyone know what's going on here? Have been waiting to get back in for a while but now that its down to my target price I'm worried there's something I don't know!

If a company considers its current value to be low and yet finds itself sitting on a cash surplus and not needing all of the cash in the near future then it makes perfect sense to buy back some of its shares. Try to think of a placing (which is needed to raise cash at the detriment to the existing shareholders) and this is essentially the opposite.

In a nutshell, its good for us shareholders.

Hi rymp0,

Not 100% certain myself - so would appreciate hearing from anyone else, but my guess is...

Cancelling the shares will reduce the number of shares in issue - thereby creating scarcity. This will mean that the supply of shares in the market will find it harder to meet any demand, thereby driving the share price up.

That said, the company will be using cash to buy these shares, thereby reducing the net asset value of the company, which would tend to drive the share price down.

Overall, though, the directors are there to run the company in the best interests of its shareholders - so I would *assume* that this move is an attempt to raise the share price?!

Any other thoughts...?!

Can I ask what the recent buy back and cancel scheme does for the business, is this good news for investors or the opposite? Thanks in advance

" ... has agreed to sell the assets and liabilities of its Systems Division ..."

"...The net proceeds from the sale after tax and expenses are expected to be approximately $61 million and it is envisaged that they be returned to Spirent's shareholders by way of an on market share buyback..."

Has anyone a view on how this may affect the SP?

may statement suggested 15% growth now halved. saying that cash rich and in good growth area. my concern is that if spt is being hit by euro crisis everyone else must be getting stuffed. 70% of share price is macro driven.

It didn't seem priced for high growth before. I had assumed that the price before the announcement reflected an expectation that growth would slow. Still, I haven't looked closely, I've just kept half an eye on Spirent.

Communications technology firm Spirent Communications tanked after it cautioned that overall growth in the second half may reduce to mid- to low-single digit increase amid ongoing macro-economic uncertainty.

dont think this is too difficult to understand. stock priced as high growth now guided to medium growth and stock corrects to new situation.
