1% interim not bad and better than most bank accounts. Of course the huge crash in share price has been disgraceful here for shareholders.

It looks like the results will beat expectations to me, hence the recent director buying. Once the price has stabilised as it has looked to have done, that is when a smart bidder is likely to move in I expect. The bottom looks to be in with that buying of shares by a director.

Any rally is likely to spur bid speculation I would expect.

Lets hope there is a deal somewhere along the line. However, the recent insider share purchase implies that there are currently no such talks at the board level...

Looking increasingly like Mediclinic will make another bid in the coming days and try and close this saga once and for all. Selling their entire stake would be madness wasting years and crystallising a huge £300M+ loss.

Directors now well placed to accept a lower offer having averaged down. More director buys should follow.

Director purchase just notified of 200,000 ordinary shares at 132.08p, must be confident as that's a fair amount for a NED who is in no way obligated to buy.

The FCA should investigate the reasons behind the recent massive ~70% drop here imo.

Connor, Clark & Lunn - are you just gamblers or do you have an inside source and feed to the Spire and Mediclinic boards?

with a bit of luck the ridiculously low price that this has fallen to will result in a bidding war

“With Spire now trading below its freehold property value, we view it increasingly likely that Mediclinic will make another attempt to acquire the company.”
INVESTEC 8th October
At the time Spire was trading at 132p - before its plunge to 103p.
An outrage.

MDC, NMC and HCA are all likely bidders IMO.

Marshall Wace made the right call in reducing their short didn't they? Wonder if they got a tip off about the FT Betaville article? I think we all know the answer don't we?

We may yet remain in the FTSE350 come December.

Spire Healthcare Shares Rise 12% After Bid Speculation

A hedge fund owned by Advent International took a 2.6% stake in Spire
By Philip Waller
November 1, 2018 4:03 p.m. GMT

"Shares in Spire Healthcare PLC have risen 12% to 132 pence amid market speculation that the private-hospital operator could face a private-equity takeover.

Reports highlighted the fact that a hedge fund owned by Advent International had taken a 2.6% stake in Spire.

A source close to Advent told Dow Jones Newswires that the fund's strategy differs from that of Advent and that the private-equity firm is not pursuing a bid for Spire.

Still, Investec PLC analysts said last month that they believed Spire's rival Mediclinic International PLC is likely to bid again for the company after having a £1.2 billion approach rejected in November last year..."

ADVFN Buy/Sell volumes for today are pretty closely matched...

...could that late trade of just a single share reported at 17:33 be some kind of a signal I wonder

12.4% rise on the day & on high volume for a change. Offer must be imminent - either tomorrow or more likely Monday IMO.

Very good results from Smith and Nephew, the surgical prosthesis makers. Whatever happens ref. Brexit and other uncertainties, British private medical care is absolutely world-class. Pharma/medical tends to be defensive too, so hope for some protection if markets swoon from here.

The recent share price performance reminds me of Horizon Diagnostics (HZD), which is a superb UK bio-genetics company. For no apparent reason some while ago, its share price slumped to a low of £1.06. Thence a recovery to c.£2,40 odd, and now steady at c.£2.00.

Whilst deeply disconcerting for long-holders, these crazy share price slumps can be huge opportunities if there's a bit of cash on the side to scoop up the low levels.

Good luck everybody !

off course it doesn't, I'm well aware of the ridiculous level of the recent sell-off;
fear and greed drive the stock market, having been greedy now the shorters are fearful that they are going to get badly burnt if they don't close in time!

A rise of 10% hardly makes up for a 70% decline since the offer. Yes SEVENTY PERCENT!!!
