04/8/2006 19:17 | I still think there's Boardroom confusion with regards to Steve Nicholson's vision as to what to do with 'Print'. My guess would be now that a new CEO is in place, with a Print background, he will want to keep the Print section, though in a different form. The only way I see that working, is end the Print Section finally, and let the Events/Internet Section absorb the relevant print titles. This would cut some salary costs, like the Print MD, as the titles would come under the Events or Internet MD's. This would also mean that the print costs get absorbed into the Events/Internet section. Therefore, no more direct Print Section losses. In one way those that want the end of Print get their way, and those pro Print get to keep Print titles. Print losses absorbed, and the die hard traditional spg print investors are happy. It may even mean Print Sales Directors recently fired by Steve in the Print section, would get their jobs back, but not sure Print MD would or would want to come back even if a new post was offered to him. Poor guy couldn't have been there for more than a year or so. But I do think an announcement as to what the Board have aligned on is very needed, not just for themselves as a company, but for the investors! Can't wait for the next news announcement for the new future of SPG. This is better than tv soaps! | spiritbear

16/7/2006 00:31 | Haven't checked this stock out for some time, but I come back to see the whole boardroom thing turning into something out of Dallas! So Steve's on gardening leave eh? If you're around Mr N, I have about three quarters of an acre which I really can't be bothered with in this heat. I'll slip you a few quid if you're interested. :-) SPM and comedy value. You heard it here first. | kuqi
11/7/2006 23:14 | I see that there are a number of Board Directors that Steve has employed over recent times from print publishing backgrounds e.g. Emap, Reed, Mirror Group etc. And they may not have agreed with Steve on his new direction with Print. i.e. End it. This could have led to a split in the Boardroom voting Steve off. It wouldn't be difficult to use the last three years results and share price as an excuse to wield the axe. This I think is what has backfired on Steve. Bloody good show Steve! | spiritbear
07/7/2006 18:02 | And there you have it...if you live by the bullet, you die by the bullet! This time administered by the Board. "SPG Media Group PLC said its Chief Executive, Steve Nicholson, has been placed on gardening leave with immediate effect. Until a successor is appointed Keith Sadler, Finance Director, has assumed responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business." Even in good times, nothing is ever straight forward for SPG. Now, this makes SPG prime for a take over...do we have any bidders? The comic value still strong though. There must be more to this than Steve firing/resigning of one Non-Exec Director? Perhaps with the realisation of 'The End of Print is Nigh!' The Print section being worthless to sell as an asset had meant a few Steve silver bullets to Print Sales Directors. And maybe this has caused chaos in the Boardroom. Now where does Chris Blake fit into this as a Director of the audit, nominations and remuneration committees? Share dealing scandal? And both Steve and Chris asked to leave? I have to say, that I really look forward to the next couple of weeks as to how things unfold in the SPG saga. | spiritbear
07/7/2006 14:26 | Me thinks trouble brewing! "SPG Media Group PLC announces that Chris Blake, a non-executive director, has resigned from the Board of Directors with immediate effect." Who's next for the Steve silver bullet? Things looked to be picking up judging by the results. But something must be up! Glad I didn't buy...suggest get out quick! If there was more volume it would be worth Shorting! | spiritbear
15/6/2006 12:06 | Final Results: A lot better! But very different from the orginal 3yr plan of trippling the size of the group of £25m! Steve hasn't kept his promise there, one of his commandments. Figures are about a year late but better a year later than never. Future: Print: 'Integrated media business' Print + Web + Forums + Events. Still think sell off Print business, but keep certain core print products for the successful business units. If anyone wants to buy the Print side of the business that is. Think this year will be a good-bye to Print FINALLY and hello more Portals & Events. Talent: Every time I check names on products there's a new face. So it would indicate a rather young and inexperienced middle management running day-to-day. And hardly any of the experienced management of 3/4 years ago. Ambitious and talented up comming staff....ummm...but lacking 'capability'. New talent not quite working here. Talented staff need training at the 'capabilty' level...not sure comapny has budget for training. India: A BIG MISTAKE.....Ooopps! "The development of a group data centre did not materialise as fast as we planned and as an interim step to building the group competence we have focused the operations on building and managing the Indian data as the precursor to pursuing the group's interests." This should have been a huge revenue source and should even be the most valuable part of the company in the future. Steve would not have missed this basic opportunity unless something is not quite right! The data would need an ABC Audit for it to be valuable. If however, not all the correct information had been gathered at the 'input' stage into the database, it's then worthless to sell. This would make sense to start with the India data, and start over again. Steve can't be a happy chappie with that regard and perhaps explains the need for management comptence in India. An Opportunity Loss is an Opportunity Cost - Who ever made that mistake has cost SPG a lot of money in lost revenue. In todays maket, I won't be buying. | spiritbear
18/2/2006 22:36 | Some small company directors tend to sell the company when the price is low... They should have put it up for sale when the price was above 100p during the tech boom...when the price is rising and the business is good their egos are riding high as well... | diku
15/2/2006 09:59 | Or, because they are very worried of being taken over, which is highly possible, the Directors buy as many as they can to make it harder for a take over. I just dont think Steve Nicholson would want to sell the co. He's put too much time, effort and money into it, when the co. hasn't reached it's full potential, in his view. Otherwise, he would have sold it a few years ago. | spiritbear
