BE13 - one of the best paid sectors in the economy, keen to embrace AI and Blockchain, and yet you'd think your money was travelling by courier pigeon.

Or you would if it wasn't so slow.

Well, AJ Bell on top form as usual when it comes to USD divi payments. USD Cheque received and sent to their bank 2 July. Bank processed this on 19th July. Will take up to 2 weeks for funds to clear so might receive payment in my account around 3 Aug.

They are saying the case is closed.. no to all the questions ..they said l should be able to reclaim the tax, l am sure that will be a ball ache. Anyway l have just opened a selftrade account up and will transfer all my accounts as suggested. I will fire another complaint off in a day or two.

Did they ask you to fill out a W8BEN? If so, why?

Did they explain why they are holding them in this fashion, when no-one else seems to be?

Did they make that clear to you when you bought them?

Why did they lie to you earlier?

I'd report them if I was you.

Ok so l got an answer back from Halifax today They are saying that my shares are held as a depository receipt which is held in Crest. So pay its dividend through the crest system and as a company to not have a facility to reclaim the tax

Sonof

SIPP is with stocktrade and they did 0% correctly
ISA and Dealing with IG and they did 15% correctly

The fact that SPSY is listed in the UK is totally irrelevant - it is a US company and you have completed the W-8Ben - should be simple

Can l ask what brokers have paid the dividend correctly? which if the W-8ben had been applied correctly would mean 15% withholdal on normal trading account and ISAs and 0% on Sipps.

The W8Ben allows US IRS to determine the domicile of the underlying beneficial owner.
If UK then the withholding tax is determined by the US-UK double tax treaty. If no W8 has been completed a US company is required to deduct the full 30%.

If the sum is material a claim could be made to the IRS for a refund.

My broker wouldn't let me buy it unless I completed a W8Ben, the broker I'm transferring to has required me to complete another one - what's the point of completing these if you dont get taxed properly.

And according to the imformation holding in a SIpp allows for 0% withholding tax if holding a W-8ben. I also asked if the form is no use ..why did you send me a form to fill out?
