As I see it, SPSY is registered in the US & all income therefore subject to US tax law, regardless of where it's shares are traded.

Surely the fact that 30% has been deducted at source is proof of this?

As suggested, time to escalate & move to a new broker.

It was incorporated in Delaware if that helps.

Well - it seems to me some of us were paid properly and some not - so the fault lies with the insitution.

The last thing they'll want is the FCA checking whether they're administrating W8BENS properly.

Trident thanks for the imformation ...l have just been on the phone again for half an hour and they are still saying the same thing that the W-8Ben only works if the share is registered in the US

So, to be clear - the dividend was 6c less reduced w/holding tax of 15% gives 5.1 cents converted at around 1.35 = 3.8p.

And you've completed W8BENS and not getting the appropriate net dividend?

Maybe they or someone in the institution is scamming you. If it was me I would tell them you're concerned that you're being defrauded and will refer it to the FCA.

That'll make the whole thing their problem, not yours.

You're being taken for a ride Son....

Tell them you're a man of means and need to talk to someone important there who knows the purpose of a W8BEN.

I had another reply from Halifax today saying that although l had the correct W-8BEN in place. Because Spectra is incoperated in the US but registered in the Uk is the reasson l was not able to get the reduced 15% withholdal tax...sounds a bit fishy to me?

Reply from AJ Bell received today:

“Upon, looking at your account I can confirm the dividend payment is due to be credit to your account over the next 5 days.

The delay was caused by the registrar sending the payment via a cheque, our banking team then have to credit to the account and wait
for clearance, which I have been informed will be this week.”

I wait to see if the W-8BEN has been applied for the lower withholding tax rate.

I had the full 30% withholdal tax taken even though l hold the correct W- forms when l contacted Halifax, they told me it was because they are exclusively a Uk broker. Who would be the best broker to use. I hold Spectra in a trading account, lSA and SIPP.

I've also messaged AJ Bell for same reason. Odd really as, generally, I find their service pretty decent for an online retail broker.

That is the poorest excuse I have heard in a long time, allyp. If they can't cope with that, it's time to find a broker who can. I use ii and touch wood, never a problem. The only issue I have is with their prices for dealing in smaller stocks. They are often well off the mark. They don't always use the MM offering the best prices.

AJ Bell Youinvest still haven't credited my accounts. Just rang them and they said it might be a few more days - they "received a lot of dividents in the last couple of weeks" so they are still working through them. You'd think they are sorting through a big bag of pound coins having to divvy each up, for goodness sake!
