I make it SPSY have now bought back 3.5% of the original shares in issue pre Buy back RNS, and we are have a far lower share price then when they started.

The perfect example that buy backs never mask average or poor performance and a perceived lack of earnings growth.

Still no dividend into XO. Apparently dividends sent by cheque . Still to be cleared. Still trying to get dividends sent electronically.

Amazing in 2022.

HSBC Investdirect will now not allow me to buy SPSY stock. I have yet to find out why even though I hold some through them

Also bizarre as it mans the cash received from SPSY into my ISA cannot be reinvested back in.

With W8Ben, should be zero tax in a SIPP, 15% outside a SIPP, but can be 30% even with form with useless broker.

TAS you need to look up W8Ben's etc, there's usually big discussions about it every divi payment time.
Generally if a W8Ben is signed the broker should only make a 15% deduction but loads of them screw it up blaming the middle parties and take 30%.

Does anyone one whether there is a tax deduction made to the dividend? And is the dividend paid in US$ of converted to sterling?

Note however, they only bought 150k and not the full amount of the trade that went through

So there we have it, a share buyback at 130p.not quite sure how they managed that amount at what would appear 4p below mid price. Probably reflects that the price on ADVFN is not correct

Yeah surely that's another buyback. If they are going to do the buyback, then you can't argue with doing it at this price. Seems very cheap at the moment. That said, a lot of my shares seem cheap at the moment. Crazy market

HL has landed. HSBC Investdirect is always one of the last to credit.

I had selected to automatically re-invest dividends with HL, but it has not actioned yet.

Robsy, if you look back not too far on the thread you will see I posted that WHI were phoning Brokers trying to sell stock. Obviously at that point in time SPSY did not want to buy back or they would have done?

The fact they have bought back indicated to me WHI failed to place the shares elsewhere at a deemed acceptable share price.

So my initial question is why did SPSY not want them originally?

I am not against buy backs, but for some reason rarely does the hoped for benefit materialise in the short/ medium term.

JIM also do that Robsy2, i.e. mop up shares, hold them in treasury and resell them at a profit.

PJ1 and paulie-I'm hearing what you are saying about share buy backs, but they can be a decent tool in the hands of decent people . I don't have a list but I have thought of one, just one-MWE. They mop up shares, hold them in treasury and resell them at a profit.

I was reading it as SPSY initiating buying rather than them buying some unwanted shares.

I'm not a huge fan of buybacks personally. I think it shows a lack of ambition by the company and would rather either they spent it on growth ambitions or on a divi.

Robsy. please supply a list of Cos where the share buy back has met investor hopes. It rarely happens.

Pretty (terribly) embarrassing that WHI couldn't place the shares anywhere, forcing SPSY to buy them back.

Controlled share buy backs by those closest to the company are a good way of putting a floor under the share price and a way of signalling to the market that there is value in the shares.

I think the 200k buyback to help clear out a seller at this price is good business for Spectra. Although I don't expect a move in the share price on the back of it.
