Hello,
I've just bought a few of these as a speculative punt......it normally results in the stock price dropping when I buy in...so apologies before hand!
;-)

Hi Jonwig, Hope your keeping well.

I want to keep a close watch on Sovgem towards the end of the calendar year. It's about this time last year they started to rise. I'm not overwhelmed by the current discount but If some of the lowly rated holdings start to improve, or if Tynda announcements are positive I may get back in.

Hello John,

yes - I haven't looked at this for some time, but agree, the discount doesn't look to be out of line.
Remember that we made our money here before there was any institutional buying, and most of these will be sitting on a loss now.

So maybe, who knows, there will be some activity to release the asset value?
Anyway, I'll have another look soon.

Total assets now only 20.5p
Trading on a big discount but It's been bigger before & with much higher % in ready cash.

Still, I like the openness & clarity from their website. Investments seem fairly sound, happy to be out of Bodisen now & big loss on Concorde of course.

dont hold at the moment but looking to get back in.

Two new investments announced:

and interims out on 1 August.

Will do some recalculations after that.
If discount has stayed at 36%, NAV should be about 22.5p, which looks right.

For the record:

SovGEM (AIM: SOV.L), the emerging market finance house, today announces that it
has made a US$250,000 investment in Sorell Inc (OTCBB: SLLI), a Korean based
designer and manufacturer of portable multimedia players, mobile phones and
multifunction music players. Sorell was part of Samsung, prior to a management
buyout in 1998.

The investment is part of a $1,000,000 convertible note fundraising organised by
New York Global Securities. The interest on the on the note is 8%, payable
quarterly and participants in the fundraising have the option to convert the
notes at any time into shares of common stock at a conversion price of US$0.50
per share. As of the close of trading on 4 May 2006 Sorell Inc. shares were
trading at US$1.25 giving the company a market capitalisation of approximately
US$35million. The investment also includes one for one warrants exercisable at
$0.75.

New york Post has a pay-for article (May 1), very negative on Global Group and Bodisen.
Here's the free snippet:

This is the full story, but it may be removed, as it was originally paid-for.

Bodisen in US currently:

Last trade: $9.40 ... -$5.35 ... -36.27%

...for some reason!

EDIT: This is the only recent news, doesn't seem at all relevant to the drop:

Morning Jonwig. Still waiting for Tynda...
• Tynda Forest Holdings, a private and established forestry products company
based in the Amur region of Russia's Far East servicing Chinese demand for
timber. Tynda is expected to seek a public listing in 2006

AGM Statement includes:

The Directors estimate that the net asset value of SovGEM limited as at close of
business on 24th April was 26.58p per share this represents an increase of 44.3%
from the 31st December 2005 year end asset value of 18.42p. Since admission to
AIM on 23rd November 2004 (15 months) the net asset value has increase by 110.9%

Hi John - thanks.
Yes, I've got my eye open for Tynda Forest too.

In fact, KimCor Diamonds might be a possibility now that its share price has retreated all the way back to 15p or so.
There's a pretty knowledgeable thread on it.

Been a good run for you Jonwig. You'll have to let me know what your next share choice will be.

I've been waiting to hear about the Tynda Forest issue.

Finally sold out last week.
Recent stakes have been performing flatter; I'm not happy with them buying stakes in S African diamond companies - looks more like opportunism to me than strategic thinking.

However, pity to let all that research go to waste - will try to keep header updated.
Anyway, may be an opportunity to re-enter at some point.

JONNO1,

and 'NO' from me too.
Don't you read threads before you post, my friend?

I'm having trouble reconciling the cash plus investments in the final results RNS with the values I've been tracking - they seem to have too much cash, which can't be accounted for using interest alone.
Will update the header when I sort out the solution.

Hi JONNO. I bought these about 10 days ago at 15.5. I sold out of CDE on Ofex at a very nice profit and wanted to reinvest in something with an interest in CDE but without the direct risk. Also like the mix of investments SOV has to offer particularly as I am a continued fan of China/Russia over the coming years.

Regards
