My understanding is that customers have been given a week to either sell or transfer the stock. Little doubt that this will affect the share price in the short term.

Good to see SOM appearing at the top of this list of highest quality companies on AIM (as well as SCH) - SOM has a Quality Rank of 100 out of 100!

They are changing to 'smart investor' (sic) and the new platform can't hold any stocks like SOM which they seem to regard as foreign. I have complained but been told I sell them, give they to charity or set up an account with someone else and transfer them there!! This is at they same time as increasing annual charges x10!! I find hard to believe what they are doing and what they are calling it!

My apologies for not replying earlier but I have only just seen your post 1248.

Yes, HL support both SIPPs and ISAs. I have always found HL to be excellent in terms of the quality of their administration both in relation to mundane day-to-day issues and/or for corporate actions. I am much less convinced that they are top league when it comes to obtaining keen prices, or managing to deal in volume, illiquid stocks. For that I would be looking for a genuine full-service broker; even if one is phone dealing, and paying much larger commissions, the idea of dealing well within the spread is not something I have found HL dealers even understand let alone support.

Hope this helps. Cheers, Martin

It's due to be paid on 14 Aug. Based on previous experience, SOM send out physical cheques still, so different brokers credit the dividend on different dates, up to two weeks later in some cases.

metis20, Glaws2 and 3800

Thank you for your replies.

My SOM is in a SIPP with HL so I now understand I should get the full dividend.

Best Regards, Martin

shanklin the sipp isa tax withholding question was answered when the last dividend was paid in April look at posts 1100 onwards. I misunderstood the whole thing at that point.

If you hold in the SIPP you don't pay the witholding tax so expect ~10p.

So, if one holds SOM in a SIPP this is worth circa 8.5p per share?

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Good post ragehammer.

Glaws, I went from Finncap, who stated in their July note that the special divi will be around 7.5c - i.e 5.8p. Given that SOM stated in their RNS that the special divi would be around 13.3c as you said, I'm not sure where they're coming from :o))

My takeaway from the recent results presentation was that Europe is actually the potentially most interesting growth area. Before the great recession revenue from Europe was c. £25m compared to around £8m today. There must be some pent up demand and replacement machinery needs and with the Euro area seemingly recovering economically reasonably well at the moment I believe this is the area to watch, not China. Europe revenue grew from £5.7m to £8.0m (40%) last year.

Special dividend more like 10p (13.3 cents). I can also see the argument where some may exit having secured the dividend on the back of negatively interpreting the trading updates (will N America fully recover - will China deliver).

Since the special dividend is likely to be 6p at maximum that's the amount the share price should move. Most investors are here for the capital growth supported by a reasonable annual divi.

Given the strong H1 trading, the currently positive global outlook and the relatively cheap fundamentals (and cash pile) there's every reason for the share price to continue to rise.

special divi day soon, this will likely tank once the divi is secured by many investors who then see, hopefully no lower than £2.60

I note that United Rentals in the USA, "the world’s largest equipment rental provider", today announced stonking results and increased their guidance for this year.

They're seen as a bellweather for Ashtead's Sunbelt division and therein for SOM's trading too.....
