10/1/2017 08:13 | And there was me thinking that the BOO trading update this morning was positive! It's rare that you see as good an update as that - para after para had positive news in it! Will need to run the numbers when back from work this evening but the 2017 forecasts look way too light on the back of this - perhaps 30 cents EPS, or 22p in FY17 might be closer. Share price should be nearer 300p than where it is currently | adamb1978

10/1/2017 07:15 | Marvellous stuff :o)) As usual... - "EBITDA comfortably ahead of current market expectations" - cash pile "significantly ahead of market expectations" - possible special dividend - big hike in the annual dividend - very strong outlook for 2017 - higher margins - healthy trading in China This warrants a good uplift today. | rivaldo
10/1/2017 07:14 | Trading statement is off the charts. Wow.Increased dividend and special dividend possible later this year.Well done management. This is five years of earnings beats now. | smallcapinvestor1

19/12/2016 08:13 | V good point carcosa. The MOS article looked quite bullish to me. :-) | cfro
19/12/2016 07:59 | That's a very good point carcosa, I hadn't thought about employment and investing in that context. | interceptor2
19/12/2016 07:56 | The article is very positive which isn't surprising when there are so many things in their favour that has been well covered on this thread and in the Mail's update. There might be some selling today that will cause a small dip, but with a trading update due early in January, I suspect there are many investors waiting for a chance to buy on any dip, so it could be rather a brief opportunity. In the previous two trading updates released in January 2015 and 2016, they have both been ahead of expectations, I am confident that we will be very pleased with the next update also. | interceptor2
19/12/2016 07:50 | Cautious investor? I sold my shareholding last week but if over the next couple days the share price reduces somewhat then I'll likely buy in again. Interesting that people consider investing as risky; if they have a portfolio of shares and one gets wiped out then it has an undesirable bit hardly catastrophic effect. However if that same individual is employed and looses his/her job then that is often catastrophic. Ergo, most employees are significantly at higher risk of a enforced change in lifestyle (as I have seen several times wrt to friends) compared to a full time private investor... Carcosa | carcosa
19/12/2016 07:39 | Exactly bb2 - if you were a cautious investor new to SOM you might want to invest in SOM for the first time at this point given the likelihood of good short-term results and further long-term progress! Particularly given the tone of the Mail's main coverage: "Somero is listed in London but about 75 per cent of its revenues come from America. Not only does it benefit from an increase in building activity across the Atlantic, but the stronger dollar means its profits – and dividends – look even higher when they are converted into pounds. The company is forging ahead in Europe too, as economic recovery picks up and construction activity improves. Somero is also moving into China, where the opportunities for growth are huge. In developed markets, construction firms already recognise the need for Somero’s cutting-edge kit. It creates better quality buildings that look more attractive, function more effectively and require less maintenance. In China, customers often need some education about the advantages of using its machines, so the sales process is relatively slow. However, progress is being made and expectations are high, as China uses more than half of the world’s concrete. Analysts expect profits of about $21 million (£16.8 million) for 2016, up 13 per cent from last year. A dividend of about 6p is expected, compared with 5.3p last year, and further growth is forecast for 2017. Somero’s list of customers inspires confidence too, including Amazon, DHL and Wal-Mart, as well as Tesco, Land Rover, Volvo and Sony." | rivaldo
19/12/2016 07:32 | I've been waiting to buy more of these and missed the recent dip. Will there be a chance to buy at a lower price today? With solid balance sheet, good prospect, competent management and modest PE, SOM is top of my wishlist. | bad speculator
19/12/2016 07:22 | Rivaldo I worry about this term cautious investor, in my mind if you were a cautious investor should you be investing in the stock market never mind an Overseas registered company?? I don't see it compatible. Maybe another word should have been used. | battlebus2
19/12/2016 07:08 | should see a lot of sells hit the bid after the Midas sell the early bird catcheee the wormz | larva
19/12/2016 07:06 | The article actually says that only "cautious investors" might wish to sell between 30%-50% of their holding. In other words, even "cautious investors" should hold on to between 50%-70% of their holding since SOM has such good prospects. And the rest of us should keep our entire holding given that the upcoming results are likely to be excellent, with global growth potential even better for the next 4 years or so given infrastructure spending plans in the USA, UK, China, India etc. | rivaldo
18/12/2016 19:46 | Think this were tipped as a buy somewhere this weekend... | tradewithtrend
18/12/2016 17:27 | Has anyone seen MOS's share-tipping track record, Lol! :0)) | cfro
18/12/2016 17:07 | Is there a site that lists all of the various share tips as given at the start of 2016? | amencorner
18/12/2016 13:34 | When the share tipsters look back on their year they want to show a good record so advising readers to lock in some profits when they have gone up a lot is to be expected and perfectly reasonable. | smallcapinvestor1
18/12/2016 13:25 | Or is it a case of sell as we would like to pick up shares at a cheaper rate. It has had a good run but there is still a long way to go for this company. Still getting into new markets and there is nothing else like it. I will be holding this long term. | petes5
18/12/2016 10:31 | Larva in no way does Midas say massive sell, it's quite reasonable to suggest taking profits after a strong run imv. | battlebus2 |
