If I was bhp I would see if the sellers came to the mkt. might get them at 32 not 50. Only concern would be that Newcrest or third party paid more! That would set cat amongst pigeons.....

If that near 2% slug were to happen to be in the hands of one person they might offer it to the market at 50p to test the level of interest? :¬) But no doubt some of that 40 million new shares will come to the market, a buying opportunity for acquisitive hands.

Guess these share options expiries are going to be watched like a hawk....a great way to pick up 2.5% of the Company/or the part that the awardee cannot pick up as they don’t have the money/or they sell sufficient that the profits pay for the shares they pick up....

9 million @14p to be exercised by 17th October.....31 million to be exercised by 28 th October......Imagine if BHP or Newcrest decide to pick up whatever comes to the market......share price could go upwards rather speedily.....IMHO

RNS not on LSE. Strange it doesn't say price paid.
Don't agree with you ODR. No retrace.
Once we break 40p there will no holding share price back.

Could be a pause now and modest retrace looking at vols.

A nicely timed RNS wouldn't go amiss

BHP - Copper demand to surge

Copper demand to surge thanks to China’s global ambitions, BHP says

Jon Yeomans, Assistant Business Editor - 4 October 2018

'Demand for copper will surge over the next five years thanks to China’s huge global lending programme, according to the world’s biggest miner.

BHP Billiton has estimated that China’s "belt and road initiative" will generate spending of around $1.3 trillion (£1 trillion) on infrastructure projects by 2023, driving an additional 1.6m tonnes of copper demand. This is equivalent to adding another 7pc to global demand.'

Mirabeau, I too expect that outcome. Mr Mather's skill will be in getting the best deal, it would be good if others compete for it. Time will tell.

significantly higher.

I don't believe Mather will sell us short. He'd be selling himself short if he did

SOLG's just tweeted the FT coverage.

I believe an offer will be made for ENSA leaving the other tenements for SOLG so that we get the best of both worlds:

A cash dividend for the sale of ENSA
Speculative upside from further drilling on non-ENSA tenements

and rinse and repeat, and rinse and repeat

Thank you pob69, I'm hoping for rather more than 69p, way too cheap in my view for the assets that Solg holds, and too cheap considering the favourable infrastructure enjoyed by Cascabel. At that 69p level it probably only amounts to the capital savings due to the favourable Cascabel access to water, power and roads/rail.

Excellent $SOLG $SOLG.L #ecuador coverage from the Financial Times in the UK $CGP

"...If there is one thing the world’s biggest mining companies can agree on it is that the copper market is headed for a big deficit over the next decade.

Rio Tinto, for example, sees demand outstripping supply by 3m tonnes in 2025 because of declining ore grades, a dearth of new developments as well as increased demand as the world move to cleaner forms of energy. (A wind turbine capable of generating a megawatt of power — enough to supply 500 homes — requires more than three tonnes of copper).

Miners are attempting to plug gap by stepping up drilling either directly — Rio has 16 copper exploration programmes in train — or indirectly — big investing in junior exploration companies.

Last month BHP Billiton acquired a 6.1 per cent holding in SolGold, a London-listed explorer that analysts say has discovered one of the largest and highest grade copper deposits in the world in Ecuador.

Since BHP bought its stake, shares in SolGold have leapt by 70 per cent and the company is now valued at more than $800m. They were trading at 37.15p on Wednesday.

In a report published on Wednesday, Liberum, a London-based brokerage, said a “competitive bid situation may be on the horizon” if SolGold’s discovery lives up to expectations. SolGold’s other big shareholder, with 14.5 per cent stake, is Newcrest, a big Australian miner.

“Considering the scarcity of copper ore bodies with Alpala’s size and grade, and with both Newcrest and now BHP on the register, we think SolGold’s valuation needs to be framed in terms of its utility to a potential acquirer,” said Liberum analyst Richard Knights as he set a 69p target price."

I thank you for the compliment jerryspaniel, however as we all know judgement is down to the quality of information available, and doing one's best to screen out emotional bias. ie, is someone else messing with my head or am I messing with my head!!

I believe lefrene to be a person of good judgement and I prefer to read rationale thoughts than some person saying where it will trade tomorrow or next week. I will nearly always learn more from a negative post than a puffer. If someone wants to short this stock then they are very foolish.
My fear is being taken out at 70p, not someone who is short 100,000 shares.

I feel that just because one holds something long term it shouldn't blind you to some of the negatives, nothing is ever all roses and chocolates.

I hold because I think the " multi generational" reserves in Solg are worth vast amounts of money, plus they have an intrinsic value that can transcend fiat currencies hiccups.

I see NM talking up the company, but I also see that NM has failed to deliver on the quarterly resource updates that were promised. That pushes Solg into typical AiM (I know we're off AiM) style penny horrors where directors talk the talk but don't deliver on it. Ah yes it's just around the corner, it'll be here soon. That isn't what keeps me or the market happy. You said it, you deliver it, I don't want excuses.

I feel we risk getting taken out on the cheap because of failure to regularly update the market as promised. NM could find himself playing catch up, if a bid is launched before he has all his ducks lined up. If I know it, as sure as anything a load of people with the big miners, who I'm sure are brighter than me, know it.

If I was a big predator I would have my spies in Solg and would know a lot more than the ordinary punter, I would be calculating the best time to pounce, I doubt if waiting for a public rns of the MRE and PEA would be in my best interests.

More coverage of Liberum's $SOLG note with new Bloomberg article (translated from Spanish)

Copper search would attract attention to #Ecuador's small mining company

The interest of large mining companies in the small copper exploration company SolGold Plc is probably not over yet, according to Liberum Capital Markets.

The company's shares have risen nearly 70 percent since BHP Billiton Ltd. bought a 6.1 percent stake last month, just two years after SolGold rejected a takeover bid by the world's top miner. . Now there could be a battle for the Brisbane-based producer, whose largest shareholder is Newcrest Mining Ltd., Liberum said.

"A situation of competitive offers could appear on the horizon," Liberum said. "As two large mining companies are now in their registry, we think about the value of SolGold from the point of view of its value to an acquirer," the company said, adding that SolGold could be worth between US $ 1,000 million and US $ 1,800 million.
