46 consecutive quarters of revenue and profit growth!
Techinvest says a special divi might paid come year-end. "Strong hold" is their stance

Sounds like a few of us are in the same boat.... but any profit should be celebrated and we should be grateful!I've been lucky with SCT. First bought at 280 shortly after they floated and sold at their first rise to 381. Bought it again and sold once more around 330 before the second retrace. Once more I bought in, held, received the special Dividend..... and then sold all my holding on 28th March at 396....Had I still been holding now I'd have another £1k or so. I'm not experienced enough to get it right, nor can I afford to lose out on such a good profit. So, yes I am gutted I'm not still holding, but very pleased with my result and very happy so many on here are doing so well. Cheers

I took some off the table at around 400p - now looks like it was probably a mistake.
However, it has reduced my breakeven price to about 275p which gives me a reasonably comfortable margin of over 30%. I can always buy back if it retraces.

I have only managed to find the top (within a few %) of a share a couple of times in many (too many) years. More often I sell on a boring plateau that turns out to be the stage for a further advance (TRI) ... or hang on only to be greeted by bad news (NCC!).

Highest Broker target is 455p. Decided to unload half on Friday and set a stop loss on the rest. Picking the top of the market never happens for me.

velod- I'm not a technicals person really but the 14 day RSI indicates its been overbought since the end of January. There has been a noticeable and robust step change in the average daily volumes traded every day since 16th March, today 260k traded already, and its only lunchtime. Rare to get anywhere near that volume before 16/3. IMO the only thing that has changed is sentiment as the results were in line but very pleasantly surprised nevertheless.

What's astonishing about this re-rating rise is that it's continuing to rise WHILST THE SHARE PRICE IS IN EX DIVIDEND mode! Extraordinary!

. . . Be a long time before you see another share, rise this strongly after it enters XD.

. . . Candlesticks are hot-to-trot and hotter than ever for SCT. Only momentum indicators are warning of being extremely overbought - but the market appears not to care. 410p? That can't be right, can it???

. . . PE is high now @ PE21 but seen worse with no ill effect. Only the momentum indicators are showing 'overbought' and as good as saying: Take cover!

. . . Everything else has gone loco for SCT.

. . . Market can't get enough of it. I keep saying it can't last but realise I've now been relegated to the position of the proverbial 'Broken Clock' Attendant.

SCSW piece from latest issue:

Softcat - Strong start to second half

390p Epic code: SCT
(Sharewatch) The shares went into orbit after Softcat’s H1 statement said customer growth has been the fastest seen since H1 14 with 800 (8.7%) customers added whilst gross profit per customer also lifted by 8.1%. With those results, Softcat has delivered 46 consecutive quarters of revenue and profit growth.
Sales were up a third to £398m but as always gross profit is Softcat’s chief measure of success and was up 14% to £61.3m. Adjusted operating profit was up 9% to £21.4m. Eps was 8.7p, up 6%.
The gross profit margin was 16.2%, down from last year’s exceptionally high 18.3%, which had been driven by a once off procurement benefit. This decline was further exacerbated by a change in mix (more low margin hardware) and strength in public sector work this year.
Speaking to the CEO Martin Hellawell, Softcat clearly benefited from customers placing orders early to beat January price rises by US hardware and software suppliers following the Brexit-fuelled slump in the pound. But he says there is little sign of a slowdown and “the first 6 weeks of the second half have been strong.”
Net cash stands at £46.6m (23.6p a share) after paying the £28m special dividend in December. Credit Suisse forecasts eps of 19.7p this year with 21.2p next. Strong hold.

Well as all the billionaires say in my various investing books, when asked: "How did you become so wealthy?" they all sing from the same hymn sheet by replying - By never buying at the bottom or selling at the top.

So that's the company us sub-400p sellers keep :) :)

I knew when I sold recently at 395.5 that it would probably go higher... but at the same time the opposite could have happened..... still, I'm happy with my £3.3k profit. Good luck to all who hold here. I'll certainly be keeping my eye on the share price for an entry point again, if I'm lucky enough for that to happen.

It looks a pretty picture on the chart but it's really only 18% since November.

I'm sitting tight for plenty more than this.

Holy Moley! 403.9p (just now) - Can hardly believe my eyes. That's some helluva market re-rating the share price is undergoing.

. . . Was happy to sell final lot of my investment to average overall valuation in low 390p's area for a decent profit - but this is ridiculous. Seen overbought last as long as 3 months in some cases.

. . . But judging by how swiftly SCT behaved on spikey overbought occasions in the past, convinced me to act sooner rather than later. Can't believe how the extremely positive momentum is still in full-on, in-yer-face-up-for-it mode.

. . . Nothing in the world can convince me this isn't massively overbought but it's looking like I'll sound more like a broken clock before it decides on retracing.

. . . Thought it had plateued - but look at it go. This simply can't last. If it does I'm writing to Stephen Hawking about discovering a new law of physics right here in Softcat city!!!

Well played VeloD. I am very much in the same boat. £15k @ 302 average. I last sold SCT when they last hit 381 before buying in again.... was also lucky enough to receive the special divi too. I've put a limit order at 410 which I think I'll amend to 400 as I think it's going to struggle to rise about that but hey what do I know!!Good luck everyone!

Sold the lot today (27th). Nice profit (30%+) Personally I think it's way overbought so awaiting some kind of retrace any day now.

. . . Have until November (the bigger divi) to get back in the saddle, so will re-buy in several chunks on the dips.

. . . Of course, instead of retracing it may as a worse case scenario only move sideways etc., Whatever - I'm attempting to swing trade it (where it looks viable) as I do intend holding for the long term.

I'll go with the best of the analysts (according to FT )
at 425p year end. Some down periods between now and then but they will all come back in for the year end divi.
