I really hope they don’t waste spare cash on purchasing shares - they did this before and we’ve nothing whatsoever to show for it in my view. If they must dispense surplus cash I’d rather have an extra dividend so at least I’d have something tangible or even better they find a really good investment project.

Re Macro ... seeing that OIL is going to fall before it happens takes some smarts ... so you won't see anyone else on here saying it in advance of it happening much

From another OIL thread in aug 2015 ... PMO I seem to remember ... where the share price halved and I called that one down from over 300p , ditto RKH and BOR to show no bias

Yes a mugs rally is in prospect for a few days

Whatever this reaches on any lift

Divide it by 2 and that will be my call when WTIC OIL drops to $35

Just a quick reality check for those who delude themselves that the share price fall of the last two months has been SOCO-specific.....Since the first week of October:- Brent has come off by more than $25, pretty much in a straight line- PMO shares have halved over the same period- TLW shares are down by a thirdThat SIA is down "only" 15% is (IMO) because:- the shares had already underperformed significantly over the prior 18 months- the balance sheet is relatively strong and the company pays a good dividend- perhaps the potential upside of the Merlon deal and near term organic growth is being taken into account?

It's the MACROS you need to get right first before you buy

The USA has upped Shale OIL production with a vengeance

So much so that in 2019 the USA is going to become the BIGGEST OIL producer in the world and overtake Saudi and Russia

This is going to continue right through to 2025

There will be no OIL shortage as a result

Not least because they will be in a close period for the next three months, unless perhaps they get the circular out before the end of December, Nigel.....

Share price at the point now where I'd love to see any surplus cash being thrown directly at purchases of heir own shares. Maybe in a similar way to rre did it via a tender offer. Wouldn't be disappointed to break from the Egypt deal to do it. Won't happen of course.

There is no base in sight , 50p target still in place , worst performer in the market for a mid cap oil producer.........sell.

I suspect that a big problem here is the low turnover of shares.

Thus the MMs will continue to mark the price down if they are able to do so.

I could make the position worse and switch to Hurricane. I wonder!!??

We all know you are the master here buywell3 (cough, cough), but your repetitive posts about doom and gloom are rather annoying to say the least and being polite about it. Filtering you seems to be the only solution. I admit I made a huge mistake buying into SIA years ago and just taking a long term buy and hold stance which is what I believed shareholders should do at the time. I am not a trader so it just seemed the right thing to do. I guess that now SIA really will live-up to a buy and hold long term investement and I hope that your predictions of doom and gloom will eventually prove to be unfounded and the BOD will see to it that the interest and newsflow returns to move us forwards. I won't be able to read any reply you post by the way!

From stockmarket wire:
"JP Morgan Cazenove today reaffirms its neutral investment rating on SOCO and cut its price target to 97p (from 126p)"

I'd be interested to read their reasoning if anyone has further details...

Egypt: 'they never pay up'"Egyptian government has been steadily repaying around $1 billion and $1.5 billion in debts to foreign companies over the past five years, the sources told Amwal Al Ghad. This brought the debts down to $1.2 billion in the financial year 2017-2018 which ended in June, from $6.3 billion in 2012."

PMO is almost exactly the same price today as 3 years ago. I'm impressed if you managed your timing to get a 600% return. Well done.

Tyler , my main point was that SIA has seen no increase in it's share price over the last 3 years , PMO has gone up 600% and others have had a nice increase ranging from 100 to 300% .
There is a big problem with this company and the city knows it , hence the continues slide.

EE is of course wearing rose tinted , so will not see it.

Jotoha2, I agree with you that Sia was a terrible investment 4 to 5 years ago and the share price reflects that. The question is whether it’s a good investment today, I happen to think it is and it’s not based on any webchats or hearsay but my own expertise in the oil industry. As the saying goes you should be greedy when others are fearful and vice versa. There are plenty of fears about Sia and the oil industry, often propagated by people who have no more than a surface level understanding of what is really happening. During downturns e&p companies preserve cash to survive potential funding problems that may lie ahead and drilling too early only results in the company selling its product at a low price whilst overpaying for services, Just basic business sense. I can tell you that very little investment has been made to add new capacity outside the US. As for US shale I doubt this will be able to meet future demand by itself and will be heavily prone short boom and bust cycles which lie ahead. This will see the shale industry consolidate and become more like other major operators which will plan and manage the oil price better. Hence, a healthy average oil price in the foreseeable future. Sia has cash, has added one acquisition, likely to increase drilling in Vietnam and possibly make further acquisitions. All bullish! I’m not saying all ventures will be fruitful but I suspect the environment will be favourable to take more risks than what has been the case so far. As for Vietnam the company is once again drilling. If you don’t drill wells dry up after a few years which is what has happened here previously. The view through the windscreen in somewhat brighter than the rear view mirror. Please Dyor.

Many here have kicked buywell in the nuts since he called this down from over 300p

That is because they were WRONG

If you look at the chart

And I can put it up with explanations on it if anyone wants

The way this has held V the bad news , and the chart shape

Means with further market bad news or any serious holder bailing or deciding to head for the door first

This could drop 100p

Yes ..... 100p to 40p

dyor
