been looking through all the the accounts. it appears that real intestment is being starved with capex/sales at lowest since i can see. not sure how they can claim investment has increased. margins were lower but they claim that underlying margins were up 2.1% ???? they look flat at best to me???? seems to be a lot of hype going on to dress this up for sale????

Taken a short. After all there is no disposal and i thought conglomerates trade at discounts. this looks like an anomaly. Even if they sold medical for £3bn, can the remaining company really be worth 25X ?

is bowman taking a huge gamble he can flog medical to a competitor at 300m - 400m more? or perhaps he will be the acquiror this time and buy one of the competitors to get the synergies?

Any idea what the costs and taxes would be on any medical disposal ?

they are assuming these can maintain a growth trend even though most of it came from the weak pound and cost cutting which even they admit has come to the end

im puzzled why brokers are pumping this one when they didnt even have the confidence to increase the dividend.

the FT said they only managed to hold the dividend and raise profit margins because of the weak pound

it seems they are pumping this on the hopes they can flip some of the businesses at inflated prices. seems like a big hope

perhaps its really because of the weak pound?

i read in FT last week -
Smiths Group, the engineering company, managed to hold its dividend and widen its profit margins, but, like many others, did so thanks to a weak pound.

Could Medical really sell for as much as 3x revenues when growth is only 3-5%? If sold for £2b after costs can someone please explain how the other businesses could possibly be worth £3.5b? Detection was disastrous last year and John Crane is hardly exciting. Interconnect and Flex-Tek are small.

Its only got a 15% price target. sSome FTSE stocks have price targets much higher and are going down! This is crazy!

At the larger end of the spectrum, Smiths Group provided the market with some excitement as UBS predicted the company, which makes airport security scanners, will soon be broken up.
Analysts at UBS said the company will indicate that the restructuring plan initiated by Phillip Bowman, chief executive, is delivering on the margin target objectives. Avi Hoddes, an analyst at UBS, then argued that with Smiths homing in on the targets of the restructuring programme, a break up of the group is starting to edge closer.
"This will create significant value for shareholders," concluded Mr Hoddes, who reiterated his "buy" rating on the stock.
