They do that nominally to keep the share price and future dividends etc on a 'like-for-like' basis, otherwise the reduction in capital would have appeared to reduce both by an equivalent amount. The tedious thing, if you're subject to UK tax, is that although it is genuinely returning part of your capital to you (you are receiving proceeds of sale of part of the business and your shareholding is being reduced to reflect that), you are taxed on the whole (not just any gain on your acquisition cost) as a dividend at your highest marginal tax rate. Still, that's nothing to what we will be paying if Corbyn gets in!

Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. I was aware of the consolidation which naturally takes care of the initially perceived generosity of the special dividend. Even so we seem to be heading in the right direction again.

As you probably already know, the payment is 80.71cents payable in sterling unless you exercised an option to take it in $ before 22/11. The dividends follow the same format and then they usually announce the exchange rate adopted a couple of days after the $/£ option has expired, so I imagine that will be announced via RNS any day now. Yes, it's going to be around 63p.

Remember, too, that you're going to have a reduction in the number of shares you hold after the return of capital. You will get 4 new shares for every 5 you hold now.

Thank you Jeffian. Maybe you could kindly help. I was trying to establish the precise amount in sterling that will be paid per share held before XD on 22nd November in respect of the special dividend to be paid on 13th December. I assume it will be about 63p ?

One of the best shorts arrow, shorted in us at $142, watch huge gaps of up to 15% which will wipe you out in a flash, this has spiked and is in for a serious fall - or maybe not - who knows but a huge spike in turblanent times is a great time to short.

Is the party coming to an end, is the Piper about to lead them all over the cliff based on a sea of Optimism or is their more, great opening action, hugh swings and those of nimble feet can go long or short and make £100 in a minute or two at £1/point right at the opening and at the us opening, a word of caution, set outside stops of about 800 pts as this swings mad and u will get stopped out in seconds as the pendulum swings. The share that has defied gravity - up up up, if every any one was so luck to hold this since 93 when the shares were 14p, yes 14p and today £100 + 70000% + gain yes read that again
70 thousand % + gain
Who was to know? for the record I sold mine at about 34p, how sicking is that - this stock never crashed through all 97 / 98, 2000, 2003, and 08/09 period
If only one could spot this in advance
