Hi TC,

It's cherrypicked from ...

... which also includes "However, business expectations reached a six-month high on hopes of a boost from infrastructure work"

... and "House-building has registered the strongest rebound since the stoppages of work on site in late-March due to the coronavirus pandemic..."

Supply chain disruption persisted across the construction sector, which led to another sharp downturn in vendor performance. Stock shortages and an imbalance of supply and demand for construction inputs contributed to higher purchasing costs. The overall rate of input price inflation was the highest since April 2019.

However, an expected rise in business activity could not prevent a further drop in staffing numbers. The rate of job shedding eased only slightly since July and remained among the fastest seen over the past decade.

I hope my interpretations have a ring of truth too, but ultimately, it is just another opinion which I hope is backed by a valid logical interpretation of what we know so far.

I am probably not as long term a holder as you as I joined shortly before the quite recent placing and rights issue.

Fingers crossed that the company is now slowly recovering. They re-opened most branches way back in May IIRC.

By the way, I have a cousin with the same name as you.

Would you understand me if I asked you... Isse kipreos i ellinas? :-)

Homeowners and landlords can from today (Friday 28 August) see for themselves how the government’s new Green Homes Grant scheme can help make their homes warmer and more energy efficient.

Very interesting post and interpretation, The Count. I hope your inferences are true. I'm LTH here so just a waiting game but would like to see some movement since we've been sat there for some time now... Neo.

And following on from those ISA purchases, it should be noted that yet one more building materials company has had improved results and has, as a result, been subject of a strong broker upgrade.

The company I speak of here is Grafton (GFTU), capitalised at a little short of £2bln. They recently released their half year results which showed the impact of the Covid-19 virus, but also showed they are making a recovery from that and with H2 showing 'encouraging' growth already.

Numis has upgraded the stock from an add to a buy rating, and with a target price of 995p. Berenburg also have a buy rating on the stock today with a target of 910p.

The Numis position... First-half results from Grafton showed the impact of coronavirus-induced lockdown but ‘more important is the continued bounce back in activity’ and the strength of the balance sheet, said Hjorth (analyst).

Hopefully this will translate to SHI too. We now also have a strengthened balance sheet, and with a bit of luck, trading is bouncing back nicely too.

Fingers crossed everyone.

Interesting transactions.

The Chairman and his wife pretty much stuck to their ISA limits.

But the CEO made space for 447,150 shares at a price of 33.3p which equates to almost £150k of stock.

Hopefully that bodes well for us. These people certainly would not be moving stock inside their ISAs unless they were expecting some decent capital gains. This is certainly the case with the CEO's transaction as it is well beyond his ISA limits for any year, even if we include a partner's ISA (but no partner was mentioned in this case). He either weas sitting on large amounts of idle cash within his ISA or sold other stock to raise money for this transaction in his company. So presummably, and hopefully, he would only do this if he was expecting a sizeable capital gain, and more of a gain than the stock he most likely already had in his ISA that he traded for his SHI position.

Hopefully a very bullish signal, or am I just clutching at straws because I hold quite a few of these babies?

Every now and again, we 'bump' into each other on these threads, and with many long years in between.

Yes, I remember well our get togethers at Janet's bar.... although now quite a distant memory, but very pleasant times. Must have been in the first 5 years of my investing life.

This one definitely looks like a recovery play once we can kick this pesky virus into touch.

Hope things are good with you too.

1,295 positive coronavirus cases today, which is still above the GOV target of no more than 1,000

764 in hospital 60 on ventilators and 109 admissions which seems to be rising.

Some parts of the building industry are doing well:

Safestyle to create 200 new jobs as demand surges

Safestyle UK, the leading retailer and manufacturer of PVCu replacement windows and doors, is to take on 200 new employees to cope with a surge in demand after it successfully lobbied the Government for clarity on the new Green Homes Grant scheme.

The Count! I trust you are well, it’s been a while since the old Janet’s Bar days!

I am searching through the rabble for some more stocks to add to the long term recovery fund, these seem interesting, I will do some research

Stay safe Sir!
