03/9/2000 19:16 | ..something I posted earlier this weekend.. Shore Capital Group (LSE:SGR) PLC, the niche investment banking group joined AIM on the 16th August. It also announced Pretax profits of 8.03 mln stg, up from 1.8 mln for the same period last year. Its turnover increased an impressive 300 pct to 12.8 mln stg from 3.2 mln, giving an EPS for the first 6 months of 1.72 pence. SGR indicated that its underlying growth was strong in the first half despite less buoyant market conditions after the first quarter. SGR recently reversed and acquired JellyWorks which holds over 20 Internet companies, valued at takeover at 62MUKP. JellyWorks major investments include a 2 percent of recently floated Orchestream Holdings Plc, which is valued at nearly 850M UKP, with stakes in Internet investment group Antfactory and the online dating service MatchNet Plc. Shore Capital's corporate finance and investment group manages 42MUKP through its Puma II fund, which boasts many Israeli connections. SGR hold a 10 percent stake in Netb2b2 Plc (AIM::NEB) which itself has a current market cap of 50MUKP , it also owns cScape Strategic Internet Services Ltd, bought for 8.375UKP, and 4 percent of Israeli company Lynx Photonics. Lynx has jointly developed a fully photonic switch with BATM Advanced Comms(BVC), another high flying Israeli Network infrastructure company. Lynx have recently announced that they are planning a Nasdaq listing with an initial pre-float valuation placed approaching $1B. But they are not just an incubator, as stated, their expansion of market-making activities have allowed them to become a significant player in the smaller company arena...so if you can't beat them...!! So are why shore worth a mention? The reason SGR is mentioned today is two fold, the current price which hasn't moved since the float @ 55p ( MKT CAP of 240MUKP), will place the company on a forward P/E for 2000 of just 16!!! This not only places SGR at an extreme discount to other broker and investment boutiques within its sector, but also highlights the impressive growth it has achieved in the recent difficult market conditions. Of course these figures assume that the currently reported growth rate can be maintained. But positive interim comments and the return to favour of the tech market have given added momentum to the argument that continued growth figures now look feasible. The second reason for comment is the dramatic return to favour this week of sector equivalents such as Durlacher(DUR),Seymo In my opinion I believe that Shore have been overlooked, especially as they have both the fundamentals and the respect from within the city to go much further. The well known Israeli link was recently reinforced by the appointment of a non-executive director, Dr Marom, the founder and CEO of BATM, whom have themselves recently set-up a Israeli Marketing Incubator, which may rub-off on SGR! I'm interested in comments for or against this company, as I believe the risk/reward ratio is now in favour of the investor at today's current price. I'll leave it with comments from the recent interim's... "...Prospects for Growth We believe that the steps we have taken this summer propel the business to a new level. The task now is to exploit our new position and we intend to do so vigorously both organically and by seeking further acquisition opportunities.." Regards tempted Once again this is not an invitation to buy or sell, always DYOR. | tempted
03/9/2000 18:57 | Me too.......Holding some at present so if it is strong at the start of the week I might do an inverted Nick Leeson on them. Regards , Moneybags | moneybags
03/9/2000 18:36 | Thanks, I'm on the blocks. | rayrac
03/9/2000 17:12 | In the Express, Cabbie James Kent who writes The Knowledge article; Bouyant market conditions and a growth in customer base helped aim listed Investment bank Shore Capital,55p, achieve strong performance with profits up 300%.But as with London Pacific the value of such investments can go down as well as up. Having said that, markets have been moving sideways for the past 12 months and it was no mean feat to achieve such gains under these conditions. Shore Capital would love to move up to the main market so staff will be motivated to achieve this transition. Buy. James Kent has a big following so expect the shares to do well next week. Paul. | adipaul

02/9/2000 13:47 | Yes, definitely one to look at I would agree .. | bargain
01/9/2000 17:30 | Durlacher have moved up 27% today and have almost doubled their price over the last few days. IMHO Shore is a better Co. in the same line of business and I think it has been overlooked and could be about to fly. This is my reasoning for buying today. Also, as the price has been static since taking out Jellyworks listing there can't be much downside, if at all! Remember, a lot of you have given this Co. hundreds of thousands over the last few days! Just my opinion and DYOR. Regards, Paul. | adipaul
