the baxalta news was not generally well received. It appears that shire are desperate not to be taken over and are doing everything in their power to avoid it whether detrimental to shareholders or not. I dont like the baxalta deal at all.

Share price not holding up well could scupper the offer or massive dilution

Thing is,hostile bids in the pharmaceutical industry can be counterproductive. The assets go up and down in the lift and are a moveable feast.

Why has Shire joined the biotech bonanza with Baxalta bid?

The sector is awash with mergers and acquisitions but it’s hard to understand what the appeal of Shire/Baxalta is meant to be

The Wall Street Journal has questioned whether Shire isn't displaying blind faith in bidding for Baxalta having not done the necessary full due diligence.Additionally,it is starting with perhaps a fairly generous bid.All in all,it concludes Shire might be being overly aggressive and wonders whether the group will have the sense to know when it's best walk away.To capitalise on exploiting tax advantages the deal must be funded by equity issuance.I wonder whether a 50% uplift in the shares since October last hasn't slightly gone to Shire's head.

Anyway, recent selling of the ADRs suggests that there's some scepticism the other side of the water.Biotechs in general took a hammering last night in the U.S.

Less than a year on from AbbVie, there's a delicious irony to Shire's $30bn bid for Baxalta

Flemming Ornskov's approach for the newly created Baxalta is the Anglo-Irish drugmaker's biggest ever takeover to date

This move on Baxalta is ambitious and amongst other things is probably guaranteed to wind up the American legislators including a President who is anti the "arbitraging" of differing national corporate tax rates.Yet,it's clearly been well considered by Shire. The opportunity to achieve massive margin improvements at Baxalta (only just out of the gate) is just too tempting and they've even thought about mopping up the inevitable wash back of stock that will occur if the bid goes through. One can only trust the Shire management that they've crunched their numbers but I can't help thinking this could prove a political hornet's nest....but if they succeed and they don't put everyone's noses out of joint, all good and well.

More financing if this goes through. It concerns me how fast these guys are trying to grow.

Perhaps at steeplejack suggest, it could be a healthy correction. It had been on a strong run since Oct 14, rising from £37 to c. £55 in six months, c. 50% gain. I'm guessing many are banking gains.

The outlook remains positive, but mid single digit EPS growth this FY perhaps doesn't excite the momentum crowd who appear to be making an exit.

It'll be interesting to know where it finds support. I'm not a chartist, so I'll leave that guess to someone with expertise.

GL.

Shire is among the day’s risers in a downbeat market after a broker upgrade, and despite suggestions it could be planning another big deal.

Ex-Div today and still the share price is positive (though to be honest, the dividend is pretty insignificant compared to the daily price movement).

Quieter the better IMO - under the radar is often the most lucrative way. Some of my best performers have very quiet threads.

Its just an automatic post - happens with any stock mentioned in the podcast - Zak Mir reckoned from the chart that the share price could go to £55.
