According to a Bloomberg assessment yesterday, the deal still "works" for abbvie up to £60.
Hopefully £55 should make everyone happy.

thanks fellows and that is why . dangerous to hold over weekend I suppose as deal might not eventuate this weekend . Odds are that it will though although punters in USA must not expect much of an increase in proposed offer a few days ago

thanks but I knew that . But I was talking about the way they took off in USA at 4.30pm dragging SHP here much higher in the auction ! Kicking myself I could not sell as I hold as a spreadbet with CMC and hoping it does not cone off too much in USA between now and 9pm ! I think it will as sod's law ! ( smile )

What next for Shire shareholders?

AbbVie has just increased its offer for Shire in a move that could open up talks between the two companies. Shareholders now face a dilemma: cash out now or hold on for the long term.

steeplejack- i think that AZN ADRs are easier to trade througb a CFD than SHP is of late . SHP slipping again in USA who must also be starting to think a deal will not materialise !

AbbVie should raise the stakes in courting Shire

An offer of £51.15 is still some distance short of the City's working definition of a knockout - so can AbbVie be nudged towards £55 a share?

good comments sport. USA leads of course after about 11.30 am when I think US stock futures opens and as a result SHP up quite a bit from today's low point, In 4 minutes we will see what US physical does ! good luck

Anyone's bet but I've sold my UK holding.Retain ADR stock in the USA.If it all falls through I reckon Shire will hold in the high 30s.Too much AbbeVie stock in bid terms I suppose but is that really a surprise. In these instances,I reckon you have to follow the market and it's suggesting no deal will be struck.

I think we all know what Shire's response will be.

They will keep saying the offer undervalues Shire until they receive a final offer which they think cannot be improved. Perhaps now they will make some indication to Abbvie of what they are looking for, but I doubt if they will make that public.

Lets hope a new suitor is flushed out soon.

Mr Gonzalez declined to rule out a higher offer or the possibility of taking the bid direct to shareholders if Shire's board refused to negotiate. "We are certainly not going to say 'final'," he said.

but a trader's paradise for those with a quick finger . Pulled back in USA but about to rally again I think . UK price will religiously follow SHP in USA until 4.30pm.

No,it doesn't and the word "agreed" might require a couple more quid.I suppose the market is waiting for Shire's response but I can't quite see how Shire can turn it down flat afterall, its kept the door ajar to date....and there's always the chance of counterbidders.Very strange price response.I would have expected to split the difference at say £48-50p for now.

The word "final" does not appear anywhere in that RNS.

This must force management to negotiate - therefore it has to go on for a little while longer - will it just depend on the remuneration packages offered to management

this should prob go to 51.1; To match ABBVie?

Right?

The USA will decide but,for now,the UK reaction seems very muted. If they get round a table, there's every possibility that the bid might be sweetened by a few quid.
