John Redwood@johnredwoodLet's make 2022 the year to grow more of our own food and produce more of our goods. Government needs to use Brexit freedoms to make that easier and to buy British itself.

"Nord Stream 2 is ready for operations," Russian President Vladimir Putin declared today, with certification the only remaining hurdle before actual gas deliveries can begin.

The pipeline can start delivering as much as 55B cm/year of natural gas from Russia across the Baltic Sea to Germany as soon as European regulators certify the project operator, which is not likely before the end of H1 2022.

Putin's proclamation came as Gazprom (OTCPK:OGZPY) completed filling the second line of the twin pipeline with "technical gas" to build up pressure required for pumping fuel along the line; the procedure, which was completed on the first line in October, is the final technical step before actual gas deliveries can begin.

Gazprom's European partners on the Nord Stream 2 project are Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B), BASF's (OTCQX:BASFY) Wintershall, Uniper (OTC:UNPPY), OMV (OTCPK:OMVJF) and Engie (OTCPK:ENGIY).

6 months to certify?? WTF. These bureaucrats are useless. So at least 6 months more of sky high energy prices.

In fact, Barclays has predicted that the WTI contract price will increase from the current rate of $73 to an average price of $77 in 2022, noting that the Biden administration's sale of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve isn't a sustainable way to bring down prices. Barclays says prices could go even higher than that forecast if COVID-19 outbreaks are minimized and thus allow demand to grow more than expected. Goldman Sachs shares that bullish outlook and has predicted a Brent price of $85 per barrel by 2023 compared to the current $76.30.By Alex Kimani for Oilprice.com

John Redwood@johnredwoodThe Conservative 2019 Manifesto promised no increase in the main taxes and control of energy bills. I look forward to helping the government deliver those promises. Stopping the tax rises and increasing domestic energy supply would help.

Expecting 1670p mark or even higher … this should already be at £18 , but as you say some hedging mistakes and the Dutch courts have capped the price. Now we are leaving the Dutch exchange and expect no repeat of hedging we should have excellent results come Feb update !
