A strategy of property and gold is for the ultra cautious but I wouldn't criticise it as it is, at least, a strategy. Gold is a decent insurance whilst property has traditionally been a solid long term investment. Currently I think that the latter is a bad investment, particularly buy-to-let, as I agree that they are overpriced and the tax advantages of buy-to-let have been considerably reduced. Getting out early should not be considered too bad a thing as getting out of property late is very difficult.

I confess that, whilst I can see a significant correction in the near future (20% or so), I can't see a crash but I definitely agree that we will see a very significant crash within the next 5-10 years, particularly in the US which I consider to be far and away the most expensive market.

Gold is bouncing back up again now. Will we see another wave of buying on Shanta after the drop recently ?

Zero rate for Fed base rate... PoG will keep climbing... Shanta to make everyone happy... except AG

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he intends to nominate Christopher Waller, the executive vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and Judy Shelton, an economic adviser to the president during his 2016 campaign, to the Federal Reserve’s board.

The announcement comes after Trump’s earlier nominees, Stephen Moore and Herman Cain, both withdrew from consideration.

Shelton was earlier speculated to be a pick for the Federal Reserve board. Shelton has previously said that if appointed, she would lower interest rates to 0% in one to two years.

Redhill,I think ag's strategy of holding property and gold is pretty solid. Real things with no third party liability. I hold some shares, but these are what I consider riskier investments- could pay out big time or just vanish.Cheers,Niels

Well then you are not as savvy as you think you are. You need to be loaded up in a stocks and shares ISA with shares that pay good dividends. No point in paying tax on interest to the government and interest rates are dreadful.

PoG hit over 3 times ($5000/oz) from today's price is not impossible due to USD devaluation....

PoG was $400 or less 15 years ago... that's less than a third of today's price

AG, the placing is so small comparing the EBITDA and revenue... so it's just the matter of time Shanta will distribute dividend... it's in the right direction Matey

Do not judge those who actually invest their money.

I would also state that I am happy to judge the gold price as it goes. If this bull run doesn't pan out the way I expect I will move on.

Mellon on the Markets: Gold and what comes next

"And that’s why gold is rising, not much yet, but a lot over the next three years or so. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see gold at US 5000 an oz in that time period, and I urge all readers to be positioned accordingly."
