Sterling may extend its gains versus the euro if Wednesday's U.K. inflation data exceed expectations, said Commerzbank.

If inflation continues to rise and the risk of a wage-price spiral increases, the Bank of England could raise interest rates more aggressively, Commerzbank said in a note.

"As a result, the inflation data due for publication tomorrow morning might well have the ability to move sterling considerably."

The euro will rise if the ECB defies the market's expectations for it to take a cautious policy stance at Thursday's meeting due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, MUFG Bank said.

Potential surprises could include updating forecasts to show inflation close to its 2% target over the medium-term, meeting the requirement to consider raising interest rates; plans to speed up tapering of quantitative easing; and any comments displaying unease about the euro's weakness, MUFG analysts said.

Such a surprise would encourage market participants to "bring forward ECB rate hike expectations again and provide more support for the euro."

The Swiss National Bank is likely to prevent the Swiss franc from rising above parity versus the euro again, said Monex Europe. The SNB will use foreign exchange interventions that are visible in weekly sight deposits to curb excessive franc strength.

If the franc rises to a level that tests the SNB's resolve and the eurozone economy deteriorates in a similar magnitude to the Greek debt crisis, the central bank may reintroduce a formal floor for EUR/CHF, Monex said.
