Did anybody attend the teach-in? Can we attribute today's rise to it?

You bought swen? Good update today in that it didnt give any further warnings although the clue should have been in the large purchase from the gaffers missus last month. These were up at 7 quid 18 months ago before the large market rally, if they can show they are back on track I'd expect over 5 quid in the next 6 months.

Well this 1day rise accounts to £100k profit for Jackie Davies, partner to Mark Lancaster following here recent purchase of 500,000 shares.

I should think that Christmas lunch is just about paid for in the Lancaster house!

There was a trading update on 17th Jan this year. It's no coincidence then that his wife and daugther have bought shares just before the director dealing cut off before a potential trading update in mid Jan next month. Lancaster must be expecting a good update...imho.

I would love it if the FD bought a chunk of shares today too!

Hatter,

Thanks for pointing out that it was his wife who bought them.

I've put it back on my watchlist, will dig a bit more as £1.5m is a hefty bet.

Simon Gordon, I should also have said thanks for bringing the purchase to my attention. I have made a lot of dosh out of SDL having sold out in October 2012; held them for 8 years!!
Will keep an eye on this as Lancaster will for sure turn things round.

Simon Gordon more importantly it's Mark Lancaster's partner who purchased at 300p: that is £1.5m. Can you imagine the grief he would get at home is the pillow talk did not turn out to be a wise purchase!

Jackie Davies, partner to Mark Lancaster, CEO of SDL plc, purchased 500,000 ordinary shares at a price of 300p per share on 13 December 2013. Maria Lancaster, daughter of Mark Lancaster, purchased 15,350 shares at a price of 303.5p per share on 16 December 2013.

As a result of these transactions Mark Lancaster and his connected persons hold 1,201,994 shares representing 1.50% of the Company's issued share capital.

Thanks Pug - perhaps one to watch imo, but I haven't done any research yet and won't be rushing to buy - it was the Chairman's buy that aroused my interest.

Been having a quick look now having broken down below a 4½ year low. Initial impression is that management have been behind the ball on product innovation and have been overtaken by competitors.

In this situation my guess is that they my well continue to lose contacts and will be unable to recover as the smaller revenue base will not be able to support the development nececessary to achieve the superior product/service necessary to obtain new/recover lost contacts.

Any thoughts from those who have followed the company for longer?.

NB Cannacord note of 16th October rated a hold at 250p and a similar level target.

bulltradept - did you mean £2.05? - in which case I'd agree with you. I've looked at the historic share price relative to historic profits and my gut feel is that at £2, if I am happy that the business is moving forward with increasing profitability, this could be a buy - but £1.05? - can't see it myself, albeit that a realstic P/E rating on current trading performance could get it there. I'm not a holder yet, but trying to gauge what the right entry point might be? Chairman buying at 261.5p is significant, but chairmen don't always call things correctly. Views welcomed.

so it was worth 400M....and only gonna make 8M PBT and before any deductions....

makes the previous 400M price tag look a bit silly....

and perhaps is a useful reminder of the risks of owning shares...
and how a share price can fall if becomes unpopular with the mkt.
