Beat me to it hastings!

Currently trading at 15.8x current year earnings, which looks anomalously low for a business that can easily compound earnings double digits p.a. inc M&A. Partly explainable by what seems to be some minor share overhang after the strong run-up. Still, nothing goes up constantly in a straight line so this breather isn't necessarily a bad thing

NEW AutoCOL, the First Fully Automated Walk-Away Colony Counting System from Synbiosis Premiers on Booth 4630 at ASM in San Francisco on 21-23 June 2019

Synbiosis is delighted to announce its new AutoCOL fully automated colony counting system will be on show for the first time at Booth 4630, ASM Microbe 2019, on 21-23 June.

The integrated system allows microbiologists to load plates and count colonies on up to 100 plates in 30 minutes and is ideal for improving throughput and accuracy in highly regulated laboratories.

The new AutoCOL integrates a simple to set up modern interface and software with an automated plate feeder and colony counter. The plate feeder, which holds up to a hundred 90 mm plates in a 12-position carousel, automatically identifies plates using the AutoCOL’s sophisticated barcode reader and counts colonies on any agar plate.

With AutoCOL, microbiologists can set pass/fail limits and the system will track and stack pass/fail plates in specific positions after reading them, ensuring accurate, walk-away counts for microbial applications such as environmental monitoring, QC labs, bioburden testing and water analysis.

Built around Synbiosis’s tried and trusted ProtoCOL 3 technology, AutoCOL features a high-resolution CCD camera and unique three colour lighting, producing precise images of a range of different plates.
The system’s software counts colonies, generating accurate results which can be automatically downloaded to formats such as PDF, Excel/OpenOffice or a LIMS system, with plate images stored in an SQL database.
This eliminates keying and data transfer errors, generating reproducible, traceable results that are consistent from one microbiologist to another.

Featuring user access levels and a full audit trail with user login and logout records, AutoCOL can be used in a 21 CFR Part 11 environment. The archived results are suitable for creating quality reports for audit by regulatory authorities, making AutoCOL suitable for use in highly regulated microbiology laboratories.

“We’re excited to be unveiling AutoCOL at ASM Microbe this year because it is our first truly walk-away, colony counting system,” comments Kate George, Sales and Technical Director at Synbiosis. “We look forward to welcoming scientists on to Synbiosis Booth 4630, where they will discover how AutoCOL is saving time and improving count consistency in the high-throughput CRO and pharmaceutical company laboratories where this innovative technology is being trialled.”

In the USA the Centre for Communicable Diseases (CDC) reports that BSE surveillance since 1993 has identified 26 cases in North America: Six BSE cases were in the United States and 20 in Canada.
Of the six cases identified in the United States, one was born in Canada. One of the 20 cases identified in Canada was imported from the United Kingdom.
In 2018 we had BSE reported in Scotland
Now in june 2019 we have BSE in Brazil

Conclusions:

BSE has in fact never gone away since it was first discovered

Not surprising as there is no cure for it

Re: Rivaldo's recent product news a few posts back: important to consider IMO, that SDI makes the returns it does (EBIT, FCF) despite spending mid single digits of revenues on CAPEX, reflecting ongoing innovation.

I came across the following earlier - looks like one of the dealer sites for Atik (which is growing very strongly -

Found it interesting to see a range of some of the products they sell and their various prices on those. Nice to get a feel for some of the products

Re my previous posts on prion diseases, ProReveal by SDI and Mad Cow disease (BSE) , the disease that became vCJD when it transmuted in humans after they had eaten BSE contaminated beef .

In case you think it isn't happening or couldn't happen again here

So much for the broker forward guidance of 55p given on 5th April 2019

It lasted less than 3 weeks

Then one month later it tested intra-day over 62p ... on 3 days

This broker got it WRONG ... forward guidance should NOT be 3 or 4 weeks

Very.. very poor IMO

I may or may not have added to my holding with retrospectively good timing today ;0). I think the valuation is very reasonable again (15.5x earnings) - the £250k they invested into future growth that meant we didn't have an ahead of expectations at the recent update positions well for the year ahead IMO

.... CJD and it's various mutated forms are all Prion diseases ....

vCJD was a mutant form from mad cow disease that killed humans ... it still does nearly 30 years later.

Forms of CJD are also wrongly being misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's.

Prion diseases are highly transmissible, fatal and there is no cure or treatment.

Prion diseases can be transmitted to a person by the use of an unclean surgical instrument which has prion protein residue still on it from the previous patient.

1 in 2000 people in the UK are unknowing CJD carriers.

Now this : The ability to accurately diagnose CJD the first time around.

One study with 97 patients found that only 18% were diagnosed correctly at their first assessment. The mean time from onset to diagnosis was 7.9 months, meaning the disease had already progressed two-thirds of the way when it was finally found.

On average, a patient is misdiagnosed 4 times before they finally receive the correct diagnosis.

During this 8 months or longer the person with CJD is in a highly contagious condition. ANY form of operation using surgical instruments or any type of eye inspection or endoscopic inspection could lead to prion protein being transmitted to the surgical instruments or test equipment used.

In addition any visit to the dentist by such a person could also contaminate any dental equipment and instruments used with prion protein.

Existing washing/cleaning/sterilization methods currently used in hospitals and dentists does NOT remove or kill prion protein.

Prion protein is NOT alive like a bacteria it can NOT be killed only removed.

This is why the Dept of Health issued HTM 01-01

HTM 01-01 was instrumental in the creation of ProReveal

NEVER has global health been more at risk than it is now with a NEW form of Alzheimer's being named LATE

buywell has been running a thread on Alzheimer's being a prion disease for nearly a year called AZN

LATE is actually a form of prion disease but the governments and health services want to avoid panic. Tau proteins and Amyloid Beta proteins need to be identified as what they are .... prion proteins as does TDP-43 protein

Alzheimer's is now starting to be called other things ie LATE
Alzheimer's was called the name over a century ago before prions were identified.

The market for ProReveal is MASSIVE once the truth gets out
