Regarding the making of more mistakes or not ! Hot off the DT :-

"The Government has been told it "can't just wash its hands" of the responsibility to keep people safe, ahead of Boris Johnson's announcement setting out plans to go ahead with the July 19 reopening today.

Unions and scientists have warned that the Prime Minister cannot move wholesale towards "personal responsibility" from Step Four, when potentially millions of people will return to their workplaces, without creating a framework for individuals and businesses to follow.

Paul Nowak, the deputy general secretary of the TUC, told Radio 4's Today programme firms needed "clarity, consistency and time to prepare", for when the work-from-home guidance would change.

"I don't think it’s acceptable to outsource responsibilities to individuals and individual employers," he added. "Of course personal responsibility will have a role to play, but the Government can’t just wash its hands of this issue."

Prof Stephen Reicher, a member of Sage, told Radio 4's Today programme: "If the Government hands over responsibility completely you are in trouble [because]... you begin to say it's not important.

"We would never say 'well, get vaccinated if you want to, don't if you don't want to, it's really up to you' so why are we saying that about masks when masks are a very important measure?"

Prof Robert West, of the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care, said personal responsibility was "a bit of a red herring", because that included ministerial responsibility to the country.

He told Sky News: "The idea that Government can abdicate its responsibility is nonsense". "

I agree - (but it's typical of BJ's style - as in 'following the science' earlier).

"Context is also crucial - the UK started with an older-than-average more overweight population with a higher % of genetically vulnerable ethnic minorities and far greater international connectivity to all parts of the country especially via those substantial ethnic minorities. No other country in the world has had that combination of risk factors"

Absolutely correct.

I'd wager that the USA has similar issues in these regards - hence the combination of risk facors you mention sees the USA top the global numbers in notional deaths.

On a per capita basis US and UK are pretty similar last time I looked. A while back!

Goy - Siam Bioscience - yes the idea of SB making AZ under licence was mooted long ago. Apparently SB have made a batch and it was cleared by AZ in Europe. I doubt they'll make much impact on the quantities needed here for 70 million folks.

As it happens, Wife's Mum just had AZ today and coincidentally, two friends also but I think it's doses from India.

Here's another for your library of Thailand dislikes - Laos actually but positioned for Thailand's use.

CAN *WE ALL* trust ANY government -
There are those, who, perhaps naively believe, they are 'sheltered'...are they ???
Let's say, one has 1 million shares at 20p... in hopes that each share will be worth £8..."MINTED".
What about TAX
CAN't touch ME, because 'I am smart', my shares / £8million profit {that remains to be seen} is covered/SAFE because 'MY nest-egg' is held in an ISA = TAX FREE
.
Knowing that governments make/break rules as and whenever they wish
Knowing that governments NEED someone to pay for this 'Carry on Covid'
Knowing that governments have a history of 'picking the pockets' of those who have pockets WORTH picking - Look no further than the 'Old Age Pension' swindle - Upping the age folks CAN claim it, thus extending the 'paying-in' years...
.
Does anyone BELIEVE the government, ESPECIALLY this 'Babymaker' Boris, UK one, will HONOUR the ISA *TAX FREE* promise ???
.
With ALL dealings with the TAXERS, it may be prudent to presume = They might NOT

"Deaths reported" is merely one metric amongst thousands. The zealots pretend it is the only, and absolute, metric that matters. But it isn't - as the next decade will show very clearly. If you lived here, you would know this. Context is also crucial - the UK started with an older-than-average more overweight population with a higher % of genetically vulnerable ethnic minorities and far greater international connectivity to all parts of the country especially via those substantial ethnic minorities. No other country in the world has had that combination of risk factors.

Australian population has increased by 2 years over the last two decades, from 35 years at 30 June 1999 to 37 years at 30 June 2019. Between 30 June 2018 and 30 June 2019 the median age remained steady at 37 years.

Uk is over 40 ...

does not sound much does it ....... but statistically for the virus makes a big difference

so i have showed

Density and age is worse in the Uk ..... the very thing the virus uses to transmit and cause death

Australia does not have 10,000 eu nationals driving lorries across the border

the virus expands logarithmic in larger populations the speed of that expansion will be higher

Australia has 25m uk 65m

EE - Yours - 'No government on the planet has perfectly insulated their people from impacts'. Indeed. But as an example, which Govt has done better measured by results, Australia with 35 dpm or the UK with 1879 dpm?

MMMmmm - 'you could hardly be more wrong of your assessment of the impact of the pandemic in the UK and the government's handling of it'. I could say just the same to you, but as above, I have more evidence.

And - ' . . . mistakes - and there are more still to be made'. Of course. I just hope I'm wrong but I think BJ and Co are taking you up on that challenge.

you implied that they didn't need to ..........

its a dreadful post ......... because you didn't identify the error the Thai Gov just made because you had convinced yourself that the bubble would work

1/ you failed to recognise what a vaccine is for ... despite investing in vaccines for years

Thailand's economy is extremely dependent on tourism (21.9%) Sadly, the country is in serious trouble due to mismanagement and nepotism by the 'Maximum Leader'

""Thailand has started its Covid vaccination campaign amid concerns over the supply of doses, which are mainly being produced locally by a royal-owned company that has no prior experience of making vaccines.""

I see, a pharmaceutical concern in the pocket of the 'Infallible' and legally-insulated King.

What can you expect from a tin pot military dictatorship in which a poodle was made air chief marshal.

We can only be thankful that we live in a Western democracy in which criticism of our leaders is permissible.
