Interesting presentation of deaths caused by Covid in The Economist. You will need to register unless a subscriber. Not recommended for those who like to make up their own facts as they go along :¬)

There have been 7m-13m excess deaths worldwide during the pandemic
The rich world suffered relatively badly, but most of the dying has been elsewhere

Official figures say there have been 55,000 covid deaths in South Africa since March 27th last year. That puts the country’s death rate at 92.7 per 100,000 people, the highest in sub-Saharan Africa. It is also a significant underestimate—as, it seems safe to infer, are all the other African data on the disease.

Over the year to May 8th the country recorded 158,499 excess deaths—that is, deaths above the number that would be expected on past trends, given demographic changes. Public-health officials feel confident that 85-95% of those deaths were caused by sars-cov-2, the covid-19 virus, almost three times the official number. The discrepancy is the result of the fact that, for a death to be registered as caused by covid-19, the deceased needs to have had a covid test and been recorded as having died from the disease. Although South Africa does a lot of testing compared with neighbouring countries, its overall rate is still low. And the cause of death is unevenly recorded for those who die at home.

South Africa is not particularly unusual in its levels of testing or in missing deaths outside the medical system. Excess mortality has outstripped deaths officially reported as due to covid-19, at least at some points in the course of the epidemic, in most if not all of the world. According to the most recent data, America’s excess deaths were 7.1% higher than its official covid-19 deaths between early March 2020 and mid-April 2021.

TF I am 99.999% certain they have got it wrong unless they have been keeping a huge secret in some back cupboard lol.
That is the only blot as it casts some doubt as to the accuracy of the rest of the article when the real question to me is have they spoken to SCLP recently to get the positive results and 2H start in humans comment or os it a rehash if previous statements taken some time ago

Goy, you are obviously incapable of listening to anyone that does not follow the corrupt Government, media , big Pharma narrative. Beware the Indian variant if you go out.

I am with you on this one, Pan.

The only slight problem with Ivermectin is the hallucinogenic side effect of believing that the moon landing was faked.

Ivy 39241 thanks - surely the Indy have that wrong - Covidity is DNA based ?

And re. 888 and CC - excellent find.

Particularly this - ". . . . testing on mice returned positive results". Does that mean the vaccine is in final form and that the 'delivery' has been sorted ?

. . . and again "Human trials of the vaccine will begin in the second half of this year" - well I make that about 6 weeks, (at the earliest) and 32 weeks, (at the latest). Soon please team !

Marcus 08:12, that's what happens when you have a Covid only Health Service and get the media to tell the public not to go to the Hospital as they are about to keel over.

Morning Marcus good spot but just to say it was posted and discussed a few days ago
888 Again a great mention and great publicity for SCLP but before anyone else says it is not mRNA based so I just think the reporters have not done enough research or checked the facts

Pan-coronavirus vaccine breakthrough in the fight against future pandemics .
In the UK, Scientists from the University of Nottingham and a company called Scancell are working to develop an mRNA-base jab specific to all Covid variants their vaccine targets the conserved core of SARS coV-2 called the nucleocapsid as well as the spike protein which is the main site of the mutations that have been detected to date.
Dr Gillies O'Bryan-Tear, Scancell chief medical officer,
"What's been mutated in the pandemic has been the spike protein, which alters the transmissibility of the virus and can alter it's ability to resist either the immunity required by natural infection or vaccination."
"The difference between our technology and most others is that as well as targeting the spike protein,we have another specificity in our vaccine which targets the nucleocapsid protein. This is the body of the virus. We don't think it mutates as much as the spike does so there's a chance it could work across different variants irrispective of the spike protein mutations."
Human trials of the vaccine will begin in the second half of this year after testing on mice returned positive results.

'More than 100,000 people have missed out on being referred to hospital with possible skin cancer over the past year, according to figures that doctors and patient groups have described as “truly alarming”.

They said the result could be a rapid rise in people being diagnosed with more advanced disease, with some too late to treat.'

Logman it is all relevant to Scancell, do you think they are being thwarted by vested interests ? Do you think Big Pharma , the WHO and Bill Gates are all about saving humanity from a deadly virus ?

WW, China introduced their lockdown after 100's of millions of the public had travelled across the Country to celebrate the New Year and the virus did not travel with them but at the same time travelled to every corner of the planet. How do you account for that, were all those pictures of dead bodies in the street real and if so why have we not seen similar pictures elsewhere ?

And on the mixing of vaccines, Bell, who has intimate knowledge of the study currently taking place at the University of Oxford, said initial findings show severe side effect outcomes.

“Our experience to date is that it produces pretty severe reactogenicity, so severe that we don't think that's going to be viable and by that I mean, you get your second dose if you flip it over, you'll get really sick, so I would not advise that,” he said.

“And the second dose of AstraZeneca, which we now put in many, many millions of people who had a first dose of AstraZeneca, we’re not sure we can even find a single case of clotting problems. So, you know…this needs to be data driven.”

Intelligent folk recognise that Wuhan instituted lockdown well before any Western democracy. But the cynics won't let that fact get in the way of a pet theory. Presumably the good people of Wuhan were reacting to familiar pressures - lockdown becoming an inevitability as covid busts through icu capacity. Best way to beat lockdown quickly and help the vulnerable - get vaccinated. 55m+ done. Britain's got brains (or at least, the vast majority do). :)

Just seen this update in the DT :-

"Coronavirus latest news: Indian variant only severely affects the unvaccinated, says Government advisor ".

"Coronavirus vaccines are "almost certainly less effective" at reducing transmission of the Indian variant, the deputy chair of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has said. Professor Anthony Harnden told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "The vaccines may be less effective against mild disease but we don't think they're less effective against severe disease. "But in combination with being less effective against mild disease, they're almost certainly less effective against transmission."

However, "all the evidence so far suggests there is no evidence of increased severity of illness or that [the Indian variant] evades the vaccine," he added. It comes as England moves to the next stage of the lockdown roadmap on Monday, with pubs and restaurants able to serve people indoors again."

Fragma, young and middle aged people die all the time from an assortment of illnesses, conditions, why do we not hear about it on a daily basis. this virus is less deadly for young people than the flu. What about the millions of people in this Country who have missed out on life saving treatments, what about the 100's of thousands that have undiagnosed cancers. What about the thousands that cannot now continue their treatment and are now confined to an early death. What about the billion forced back into poverty, what about the 100's of millions who will die of starvation in the next 12 months. What about the fact that only 6% of the more than 500,000 in U.S.A who were put down as covid deaths didn't actually die of Covid. What about the more than 400,000 kids in this Country now suffering from mental health issues. What about the elderly and medically vulnerable who are scared to leave their homes for a virus with a 99.7 % survival rate and an average age of 83. What about the fact that treatments that work have been cleared from shelves and Doctors are threatened with arrest or having their license removed if they prescribe. What about the thousands of deaths and 100's of thousands of injection injuries. They are now injecting kids with a treatment when no one knows the medium and long term effects. Why are the regulatory authoritiies around the World funded by Big Pharma totally ignoring their own adverse reports ?

It is far from finished.

The first link is from the European Centre for Disease Control. It is a survey of a large number of variants including a few that are considerd to evade vaccines.

I found the above link in a 112 article, so I will give that link to.
