"We are going to look at different sources of supply, we are not going to be dependent only on Portuguese ore", declared the CEO of Galp, Andy Brown, at the project presentation session, which took place this Tuesday in Lisbon.

Asked about the role of Savannah Resources in this project, since the miner is included in the consortium led by Galp that competed for funds from the PRR, and even reached an agreement with energy company for the exclusive sale of ore extracted from the Barroso mine, Andy Brown stated that this is an issue that runs "in parallel".

“We are working closely with Savannah, their project is ongoing. We are waiting to see if they secure the necessary permits. It is a process that runs in parallel. But we will not depend on them. to ensure that commercial operations advance in 2026", guaranteed Galp's CEO.

Welcome and congratulations on your first post after twelve years. Looks like you're from Yorkshire but you're not charged for each post! :))

I agree with you. It's been mentioned before. SAV is now streamlined and much easier to sell especially as a lithium production company.

If they building a massive plant in Portugal then it makes sense to tap into the biggest resource in Portugal. Winner.

Or tap into a % of the various auction areas as they roll out to build up to their 10x initial target.

It has jumped 11% on 1.6M trades. Perhaps we could get a decent spike, after all it is the most advanced and largest conventional lithium deposit in Europe......We all deserve medals at least.

I'm expecting a swift move towards 7-8p before marching well into double figures. If all goes well my original 30p target is very achievable.LolTake 2 or 3 or 4Hahaha Gl all

Some relevant extracts from the Eco article:Last para, take note.Among them Savannah Lithium (123.7 million euros) and Aurora Lithium (387 million euros), which was then formed by the Swedes of Northvolt and the Canadians of Nemaska Lithium. After much mystery, the project delivered to the Ministry of Economy reveals that Sines was after all the place chosen by Portuguese oil company Galp and British mining company Savannah Resources to "implement a sustainable lithium processing refinery in Portugal, which produces between 25,000 and 35,000 tons per year of high quality refined lithium (battery grid), sufficient for the production of more than 1 million electric vehicles per year in the EU".To this end, they guarantee to maintain "territorial cohesion in the sites of implementation of the mine and refinery, respectively Boticas and Sines", according to the synthesis of the project disclosed to journalists by the Ministry of Economy, and which was delivered by the hands of the companies themselves to the Mobilising Agendas for Reindustrialisation and Green Agendas for Business Innovation.Contacted by ECO/Capital Verde, Galp's official source confirmed that it has indeed advanced with Sines' localisation in the application for PRR funds, but continues to say that the construction site of the lithium refinery is not yet 100% closed. The Matosinhos refinery, further north, came to be mentioned as an option after its closure, but this hypothesis was always denied by Galp. But also implement a sustainable lithium processing refinery. The only obstacle to sustainability in this plan is that lithium will have to travel almost 600 km from the Savannah Barrroso mine in Boticas (where it is extracted and concentrated), to Sines, where it will then be refined, increasing the carbon footprint of the entire operation. In the plans involving Savannah, it is also planned to enhance the assembly and recycling of lithium batteries in Portugal. The minister also announced that the tender for the prospection of lithium in areas already selected and submitted to environmental assessment will be launched "at the beginning of next year"."We will certainly have lithium exploration and done fairly." It won't be as early as desired, he announces. "We really want to launch the contest for the prospecting, but it will no longer be this year, because the public consultation ends on December 10. It will be at the beginning of next year."Earlier, the minister waits, he will start on the ground the extraction and production of lithium at Savannah's Boticas mine. "We also have a strong expectation of what will be the decision of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Barroso mine in Boticas. That's why we believe that this is the closest (if you have a positive DAY and I hope it will happen) to move forward as soon as possible. And then we're already talking about production and not just prospecting," concluded the minister

Wondered what the few buys were about.

"Galp will finally announce a partnership with Swedish giant Northvolth. At the end of talks that have lasted for more than a year. The company called journalists to the public presentation this Tuesday of Galp's industrial project in the Value Chain of Batteries for electric vehicles, which includes the construction of a lithium refinery in Portugal."

According to the project CVB Agenda - Lithium Batteries Value Chain, submitted by Petrogal to the PRR funds and the mobilizing agendas of the Ministry of Economy, with a total investment of 980 million euros, it is led by Galp, but includes many other companies.

Among them are Savannah Lithium (123.7 million euros) and Aurora Lithium (387 million euros), then formed by the Swedes of Northvolt and the Canadians of Nemaska Lithium.

Thanks to Lucker for providing the link.
And thanks to both of you.
