09/9/2003 00:02 | aandrew Sorry I thought it already was. | tomsboy
08/9/2003 21:24 | tiredoldbroker - i do agree with you in the main, but with the exception of a shell company with a strong team and/or contacts where the opportunities can be very good. Saltmark is not one of these imo, but there are a few around - Tec-IS, Streetnames, Illuminator, Bullion Resources to name but a few. Shell companies can do extremely well if you get in at the right time. I only buy in when I have confidence in the management team - even then, it is a calculated risk. | simonevans
08/9/2003 21:12 | Anyone care to speculate on the business interested in reversing into SMK ... a chip van perhaps !! | wakeland
08/9/2003 16:36 | I have commented on other threads, when people have claimed that possessing an AIM listing is worth £200,000 to a shell company, that such talk was absolute rubbish. Maybe the SMK announcement that any deal will involve issuing shares at a substantial discount to the suspension price will help to bring that fact home. In all my years of following the stock market, including my time as a private client stockbroker, I have never known so many shells to be knocking around, chalking up listing expenses and directors' salaries, hoping to do a deal. Supply and demand rules, and if you had a private company which you wanted to reverse into a listed shell, you'd have a lot of candidates to choose between. So the proof of the pudding is in the eating. A shell company is worth its net assets, maybe not even that much. There is no magical value in be listed on AIM. | tiredoldbroker
08/9/2003 13:45 | Wrong I'm afraid. I have not bought any shares for over a year. I'm just sitting on them all. Thankfully most have come back into profit. The only ones yet to do so are Marconi (and that will never happen) and SMK. I've not bought any since my first batch as DIR. I just logged on today to find they were the highest climber on the FTSE. I thought I'd check out this BB to see the reason and was confused as to why you and primrose were saying it was a bad day... I didn't know until godolphin's post 92 that the share had been suspended ho hum. At least I haven't lost that much. Sorry for the comment, but it was unclear as to what was happening. It looked like good news not bad, but then what do I know... PP (still up on the year - just!) | the punk panther
