29/1/2021 22:51 | The difference between Bitcoin and a dot.com is that as they say many a gold mine was sunk when first they dug for gold - whereas BTC never has that moment when it's actually expected to produce gold/cash profits It's a store of value, which means it's just a "credit" which in Latin literally means belief And my kids belief in it, (kicking myself for not going huge on games workshop when's they tipped it) so it's a belief that has a lot of life in it; albeit a mega amount of volatility | williamcooper104
29/1/2021 22:50 | Your both obviously well educated in crypto. Although KR1 is nice it isn't available as a tax free ISA or SIPP investment. ARB is the one to look at if you want direct BTC investment without the pain of buying in direct through a crypto exchange. No ramp intended! | hootza616
29/1/2021 22:47 | I'm here as they are heavy into inflation and CDS Looking for that mega tail risk protection | williamcooper104
29/1/2021 22:28 | Massive fan of Ruffer since it listed and is the only fm i trust. The fact that they invested in Bitcoin shows they really do look at all aspects of the market. I listened to 4 top fm from the likes of Newton, Hamros interviewed recently and none of the had a clue what Bitcoin was about or more importantly defi. One only has to look at the boe to see they take it seriously. Fwiw I own KR1 which is a fund investing in defi projects. | slicethepie
29/1/2021 21:40 | BTW that wasn't meant to be patronising in any way, seriously if anyone wants to know anything about BTC or crypto in general I have been in deep for a number of years. Bought in here for only that reason.Happy to impart my knowledge freely and without bias. | hootza616
29/1/2021 19:23 | I get the feeling most investors here have had no exposure to and probably do not understand Bitcoin. All questions welcome, happy to help. | hootza616
29/1/2021 19:18 | Well, they have been pretty clever over the last year or so, Or maybe just lucky! | elmfield
29/1/2021 15:11 | Hopefully they will sell before it becomes worthless! | spoole5
29/1/2021 14:48 | It's good to get a bit of exposure to a bonkers idea without taking too much risk! | jonwig
29/1/2021 14:38 | Bitcoin going bonkers, | elmfield
19/1/2021 11:15 | Thanks for this links - one of the most insightful commentaries I've read. Maybe we should all now have a portion of our folios in Ruffer? | brucie5
19/1/2021 10:48 | IC article about Bitcoin says Ruffer Investments took a £550m position in BC in December (less than 3% of assets). | jonwig
18/1/2021 17:04 | I gather they hold Bitcoin via their Ruffer Multi Strategies Fund, which will do all sorts of clever stuff. I think that fund's performance in 2020 was stellar. | jonwig
18/1/2021 16:54 | In terms of rotating the assets I was hoping they might have got out of Bitcoin again while the bubble deflated and held gold/cash or index linked securities in its place. To buy it as a hedge was a brilliant idea, ahead of their time, but a hedge should only rise to the extent that the asset its hedging you against falls (broadly). If it goes further then the market has overeacted and selling temporarily is logical. Happy to be corrected, Im certainly not as clever as them! | makinbuks
18/1/2021 10:50 | Thanks for that jonwig. A very interesting read written by a team with a coherent strategy that I feel fits the times we find ourselves in today. I haven't felt such inspiration from Ruffer since 2008. I had got pretty close to selling this prior to 2020 on account of their lacklustre stock picks. I still think they need a better angle on that! But the real reason why I will continue to invest here is their exposure to non-UK inflation-linked investments, their exposure to Japan, to gold and now bitcoin, as I do suspect, despite been an advocate of interest rates lower for longer than consensus, that inflation will eventually kick in and we will all have to pay the price for kicking that can. | lambeater
18/1/2021 07:18 | Investment review: A fascinating read. Skilful timing and rotation of assets. | jonwig
13/1/2021 19:16 | Nice tick up in asset value. Nearly 267p | elmfield
11/1/2021 14:55 | ...Hope they know what they are doing. | pvb
05/1/2021 22:37 | Bitcoin through £25. We must be holding nearer to 5% in Bitcoin now? | elmfield
29/12/2020 09:17 | Surprised it's not gaining more on BTC rise? | hootza616
27/12/2020 13:52 | Great timing on the Bitcoin purchase! | slicethepie
17/12/2020 15:53 | I would think they would just purchase it and store it on a hardware wallet in a safety deposit box along with any other physical valuables they have. Or perhaps use a cold custody service. Nexus Mutual are more about insuring against smart contract losses, especially on Ethereum network. I think it's a great looking project. hxxps://nexusmutual. I did see the founder got hacked recently - through what sounded like a pretty simplistic phish. The NXM/WNXM token was down off the back of that but I'm not sure justifiably so. | gb904150
17/12/2020 14:47 | Massive fan of Ruffer, the Bitcoin move is very interesting as given their highly conservative approach they must feel confident about the security of their holding, wonder if they insured it ( think nexus mutual do this?) | slicethepie
16/12/2020 15:26 | Can't buy HODL in my ISA | hootza616
16/12/2020 15:09 | It is also the future.I wonder if you have compared the cost of mining bitcoin with mining gold?Much of the BTC energy is from renewables. In fact Chinese miners only operate during the rainy season. | hootza616 |
