15/3/2020 21:05 | It was. I would say that I believe they'd prioritise the dividend above all else. Even if buybacks make more sense at these low levels. | junior21
15/3/2020 21:03 | Not sure. Those with better frontal lobotomy my be able to comment. spud | spud
15/3/2020 20:32 | Good article that. | mr roper
15/3/2020 20:26 | Spud, I thought nearly all the 25 billion share buyback is already spent? | tjdeakin

15/3/2020 20:14 | all i can say is take from a post or article what you might use to buy, sell or hold depending upon your personal circumtances, perpens effective for cap gains and divi income i find it difficult to accept anything i read these days all i can say in coming weeks and months i will be buying back into the market, firstly for divis and then for capital gains very personal | waldron
15/3/2020 19:43 | Waldron. The writer talks about the shortest bear market ever - 1 day. How could he possibly know that? It is very likely that he is wrong imho | volsung
15/3/2020 19:18 | 14% yield now. Can they maintain that? | imperial3
15/3/2020 19:17 | Good reasoned article | gateside
15/3/2020 17:41 | Llef - They'd just stop the $25 billion buybacks. Divi easily covered. spud | spud
15/3/2020 16:27 | The Brent futures curve is "forecasting" 40 usd dollar Brent oil for end 2020, and 45 dollars for end 2021. If that came to pass then basically oil would trade at an average of high 30s dollars for 2020, and 43 for 2021. I think it would be hard for Shell to maintain its divi for 2 years at those prices. SO im guessing that market thinks that the divi might be halved from current levels, and so at 6% might offer decent value for long term investors | llef
15/3/2020 15:36 | In Italy you can be charged with murder if you don't self isolate. Similar to HIV. "Anyone showing symptoms of coronavirus in Italy who refuses to self-isolate could face 21 years in prison. Authorities warn that those who come down with a cough, fever or other signs of the deadly Sars-like disease who avoid going into quarantine could risk being charged with attempted murder. The country is struggling to contain the spread of the bug and has confirmed more than 12,000 cases and 827 deaths. Italy has been put on a nationwide lockdown with all stores except for pharmacies and food outlets being ordered to close down. Citizens have also been told they are not allowed to travel unless for pressing health or work reasons. Anyone who comes down with a fever, cough, or other symptoms of the new coronavirus strain named Covid-19 who do not put themselves under self-isolation risk being charged with causing injury and be jailed for six months to three years. If a careless coronavirus sufferer went on to pass the bug to an elderly person or someone made vulnerable by a pre-existing health condition, then they could be charged with ‘intentional murder’ and could spend up to 21 years behind bars, reports Il Sole 24 Ore. Those who carry on with their daily business after knowingly making contact with a coronavirus patient could also face the same penalty, as well as those who fail to warn people they may have infected. Symptoms are very similar to the flu or common cold, but advice has been given on how to spot the difference for those with concerns. Italy’s new legal measures have been compared to punishments for people who willingly pass on HIV to unsuspecting victims." | whiskeyinthejar
15/3/2020 15:19 | funnyily when i reached over 70,i did not feel old recently with all this virus stuff i feel not only an old ancient codger but being bullied into being weak and feeble this cannot be accepted i think this is the biggest con the elites have played on the man in the street thus far THERE SHELL B BLOOD CHUCKLE PERHAPS IT MIGHT GET WORSE Logan's Run tells the story of a futuristic society confined to a domed city where all of your wildest fantasies can come true, as long as you are willing to sacrifice yourself on your 30th birthday. | waldron
15/3/2020 14:59 | waldron, the actual death rate is hopefully markedly lower than the reported cases mortality rate. If you have mild or sub clinical symptoms, you are unlikely to be included in reported cases. Around 1% or lower, hopefully. The main danger looks in national health systems being overwhelmed by surge demand. People will die due to stretched resources, who would otherwise have survived. | essentialinvestor
15/3/2020 14:56 | zho- i was responding to question about why Shell been under more pressure than BP in last 6 months. Too much gas around I suggest. Yes, more recently, gas has bounced. But the oil price has crashed in this timeframe, so Shell hasn't got benefit of gas price recovering somewhat. | whiskeyinthejar
15/3/2020 14:49 | ej my sister was quarentined on a island and found negative when back in uk they were not again tested or put into isolation but let home no probs many mild cases and non cases seem not to be recorded and do not find their way into statisics therefore all numbers distorted either due to inferior med backup and or political massaging once again i feel this is a bizarre practice run for zombieland2040 in the meantime have fun but observe and do be careful chuckle and cheers | waldron |
