SLA buying like crazy atm. Normally I'm against buybacks but not when stocks are so ludicrously oversold.

hope Shell have opened the taps on the buybacks

@Gooner1886 post 10804
"Whats your average in here fjgooner?"

-----

My b/e including dividends received during the last 5 years is £14.58.

That may not seem too bad, but that is a capital loss of 15% but with huge sums of money effectively idled and depreciated by around 10% over that period.

So in effect a 25% erosion.

I appreciate that many others will be in worse positions and I have the utmost sympathy with them. As I do for any of those suffering with Covid-19.

Given the graph of the virus from inception to peak to fall-off as seen in China, I'd hope to see the lifestyle restrictions now being implemented lifting in 2 or 3 months' time in Europe and North America.

The oil market could see a very sudden cessation of schoolyard hostilities at any time. Or not - in which case US shale will contract massively. Some rigs are already being idled.

In any scenario Q1 and Q2 will be very weak for Shell. Q3 may witness a floor with Q4 seeing recovery.

This year will be our new 2015 / 2016.
Earnings per share in 2015 was $0.31, dividend was $1.88.
Earnings per share in 2016 was $0.58, dividend was $1.88.

Next year may well be our new 2018.
Earnings per share in 2018 was $2.82, dividend was $1.88.

Time will tell.

On the plus side, we can't go down more than another 1175p from here. :)

FWIW, I've placed a limit buy @ 10 quid. Probably won't reach that level but if it does, unless we're all going to die, I should see a capital gain in time.

Governments shouldn't be closing schools, borders and even entire economies. They should be closing financial markets instead. We have a false market - where the big boys know they can sell and buy back lower - taking out PI's along the way. This crisis is just moving masses of private wealth to the hedge funds.Close the markets until the infection rate is definitely slowing

But surely the oil price is just (if not more) of a factor in this decline as the virus ?

Once both have resolved to some sort of sensible level this should recover just as quickly ?

Ride the storm, it's good news for buybacks rather they buy at 1250p than the 2550p they were buying at.It will all work out. Fortune favours the brave.
