The FTSE100 should have been called to open higher this morning in line with US, Asian and other European markets, but the spread betters have decided to screw those who bet on the Index by calling it down a few points.

Is it any surprise that Philip Hammond last night described the ERG crew as 'extremists' ...

quote ... Jacob Rees-Mogg has called on the Prime Minister to “urgently̶1; tender her resignation to The Queen, despite winning a vote of no confidence on Wednesday evening.

Speaking immediately after the result of the vote was declared, the Tory Brexiteer said: “The Prime Minister must realise that under all constitutional norms she ought to go and see The Queen urgently and resign.” unquote

ianood, I hear you... then why the attempt to put us through all this, let alone the cost to us through substantial payments for the past 2 years...Really!!

So we have finally woken up as a people to demand what has been open to us all along? for the past couple of days we have heard from other contributors that the question within the referendum would have produced completely different results if viewed in a different light or that it is no longer realistic to think there is a majority given how close the vote for it was, that there is a majority wishing to leave or as leeds wisely posed the lunacy of abandoning our largest trading bloc? ...Is there really an appetite for us as a people to unite around Hard Brexit/no agreement or even soft Brexit? then why not already have done so? because of poor confused way over her head treesa? or even deliberate, dastardly treesa?...what changes?

May I ask if she does get the votes, what changes? and the same if she does get the boot , what changes?

Are we going to get some grandstanding conservative telling us the EU will be forced to listen to a new position holder? No they don't!

Leads has already pointed out that if she does stay her vote is dead in the water ...

Who is going to be wanting this poisoned chalice anyway?. Or look forward to sweep up after this diabolic shambles..

A clear case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire it appears to me, either way...

If tweets are to believed she already has 110 of the required 158 or so votes she needs to win tonight.

gcom2, the market believes she will win ... and if she does she cannot be challenged as leader for 12 months. So having been in a weak position she would be in a strong position. However, it will not make any difference to the vote on her deal. That is dead.

EDIT: There are 318 Tory MPs. To remain as leader of the Conservative party, in the vote tonight she needs to win 159 votes + her own vote.

Smurgy2001. We honestly, none of us, have any idea what was voted for. The ballot paper said in or out. It did not say hard or soft. Or Norway or Canada. Or bad deal or no deal. If we went back and sifted through the votes and put them into the various categories, who knows what the result would be.

Second Referendum would go down like a lead balloon.

Ideal outcome would be Hard Brexit, you deliver what was voted for.

It is increasingly looking like Theresa May = No Deal.

The only escape route may be for the Tory Party to remove Theresa May and install Amber Rudd, who is firmly on record, as recently as this Monday, for a Peoples Vote. Rudd withdraws the Article 50 Notice and supports a Second Referendum.

A new 2-yr low today at 200.50 - getting closer to my long-standing measured target around 176 by the month.

The ongoing wave pattern looks to have more downside potential, hardly surprising as long as the country has such an incompetent and duplicitous PM.
