On immigration, the issue that defines him, Enoch Powell was not visionary: he was utterly mistaken, deliberately incendiary, and a dupe of the National Front.

Only in the last few months have the UK mainstream press dared to push such material. As a historian I find this significant.

Personally I have no problem with immigration to the UK. People have to live somewhere. I like to live where I please, so why shouldn't they?
