Yet it is valued at hundreds of billions of US$ because optimism for its long term future.

£9bn market vale is peanuts for a company of RR importance.
This 'aint Boo Hoo or Deliveroo.

At £9 billion its fully valued for the risks. I treat RR as a trade but not a buy and hold for now since they last reported a FY profit in 2017!!

Rolls-Royce is set to invest £80 million and create around 300 jobs in the Midlands over the next nine years developing energy storage systems (ESS) for electric aircraft……Rob Watson, director of electrical at Rolls-Royce, said: "This multi-million-pound investment by Rolls-Royce over the next decade is another demonstration of our ambitions in electrification. "It will enable us to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for all-electric or hybrid-electric propulsion systems, which is incredibly exciting as these new markets develop and expand."

Opening up travel between nations may soon be on the cards but covid test 3 days before flight another test when you arrive then another 3 days later and then repeat for return flight will deter a lot of people and not just due to costs but also inconvenience.

The global vaccination coverage will determine the timing for ramp-up of long haul flight. Current average global vaccination rate is 35m/day (up from 20m early May). At this rate it will take 9 months to fully vaccinate 75% of global population, less if more vaccine capacity is added.
