I have just heard from agents in London. Next year when they all need to make their decision following agents mutual.... Most of the, are apparently keeping zoopla over Rightmove due to prime location..... Going to be interesting in the new year.

Over the last month, real estate portals have done well.

Zoopla have bounced from (rough figures) 225p to 255p

Rightmove 2075p to 2405p

Zillow $130 to $140 ( having been as high as $160)

All looking strong. The UK names are perhaps borrowing a few new tricks from Zillow which always helps to innovate and refresh company offerings.

Zillow has consolidated after the Trulia take-over which should be formalised within a few months.

Don't be put off by the seemingly high price of some US shares. They tend to have fewer shares in issue. If you invest £1000 it's irrelevant if you get 10 shares or 500 shares. It's still £1000.

Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway share price has just hit an eye-watering $200,000 per share ( from $41 per share in 1970!!!).- now that is remarkable.

What can one draw from the monthly performance-to-date of RMV, ZPLA and NASDAQ:Z ?

All have done astonishingly well against what has generally been a very poor market wracked by geo-political tensions.

Bodes extremely well for the sector which is hot with Zillow upping the game for all whether in the USA or UK.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

At the end of it, both companies are good.

Both have merits.

They are the no.1. and the no.2.

Bit of additional competition for Rightmove with a newly listed Zoopla is good and will help keep Rightmove on their toes.

Zoopla is doing a good job advertising itself after the flotation.

Behind all of that, is a very strong property market indeed. London may have temporarily plateaued but the positive ripple effect away from London is getting stronger and stronger.

The market is strong. With massive population increases, low interest rates, significantly decreasing unemployment, the backdrop for the sector as a whole is excellent in my view.

There should be more than enough business for both companies to prosper. The sector is hot.

In my view, the temporary market correction and summer lull will soon be ending.
I see great prospects for both companies.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

Far greater yield on RMV too and they constantly buy loads of their own shares back.

ZPLA on a PE of about 35, RMV PE of 20 and growing faster.

I'd be short ZPLA myself.

Don't think so - more like Zoopla gonna need to invest in streetview aand other better technology like RMV imo.

RMV have been around long enough to see Zoopla off imo.

RMV is goijng to have to start spending marketing money because Zoopla is taking market share with that tv advertising
This will reduce its profits

Is the UK Housing Market strong or not?

Why the share rose sharply yesterday.

The complete and up-to-date situation from the well-respected and unbiased source of The Council of Mortgage Lenders.

This is an extract I like:-

Quarterly highlights:
##In the second quarter as a whole, there were 79,900 first-time buyer loans - 17% up on the previous quarter, and 24% up on Q2 2013. In the second quarter as a whole, first-time buyers borrowed £11.5 billion - up 12% on the previous quarter and 34% on Q2 2013.

The full article:-

First time buyers on the march is a strong indicator.

Although re-mo's and btl continue to do pretty well.

Over 30 million shares bought back by RMV since they announced the buy back plan in 2007. That is a serious plus in my book.

RMV doesn't need Zoopla imo - if anything happens the US come knocking for RMV imo.

Yanks buy the best and pay a hefty premium to get it imo - Zoopla is like comparing a Lada to the BMW that RMV is imo

All imo/dyor etc

Some general observations:-

The brokers clearly love the sector.
Not a single sell/reduce/underweight broker reco' from what I could see.
Rare to see such a united view and POSITIVE amongst brokers.
Uniformly strong recommendations for Rightmove.
Brokers see upside potential in both stocks.
