02/7/2013 09:05 | morning wad, bought in last week just before I went away for a few days. Sunday Times: It seems to be back to Plan A for can-maker Rexam. After purchasing US packaging manufacturer Owens-Illinois in 2009 the company has now decided to sell its plastic packaging division and go back to what it knows best - cans. To be fair to management, Rexam should recoup most of its money from the plastics sale. It will also keep a large amount of tax losses that will help future profits. It has been a costly diversion, although the company will come close this year to hitting its target for a 15% return on capital employed. Even so, it would be good if it could deliver on this sooner rather than later, says The Sunday Times´s Matthew Goodman. Sharecast and a Questor tip from last week.. Questor share tip Rexam a buy after falls Telegraph Rexam will focus on its core beverage can business. Questor says buy. | philanderer

24/6/2013 10:05 | Just triggered my 472 limit - don't know where this is going next but happy to sit long on these again. I fail to see why such companies are perceived as worth so much less than 2 months ago , but if someone has been happy to sell them to me at this price then good luck to them. | wad collector

15/4/2013 08:08 | Investors are unlikely to kick up a stink when they vote on Graham Chipchase´s rewards this week. The Chief Executive - who took over at the helm of Rexam in January 2010 - has presided over a 65% share price rise and the return to shareholders of £800m. Even better, his efforts to cut input costs seem to be paying off. The tin can manufacturer's return on capital has risen from 9.5% to 14.7% since 2009, while pre-tax profit is up to £418m, from £414m the year before. However, some - such as analysts at Deutsche Bank - fear the company could become a victim of its own success were it to squander its hard-won 'financial flexibility' through fruitless capital spending, writes The Sunday Times´s Danny Fortson | broadwood

01/3/2013 16:57 | Triggered my sell just before the bell at a fraction over 521. I think it was the highest sell price of the day. I think Rexam is a solid company and look to buy back in at some stage but I hate watching a significant paper gain drop away. It is not the bargain it was 3 yrs ago at £3. | wad collector
