10/5/2017 23:00 | redT's business manufacturing strategy has always been and continues to be that mass production of redT machines would take place away from the Livingston facility, at other Jabil plants, following the conclusion of the Gen1 market seeding phase, which is now complete. | dogrunner11
10/5/2017 22:54 | China is known to be one of the leaders in renewable energy, with investments in renewables reaching around $111 billion, and around 12% of the country’s energy comes from non-fossil fuel sources. Despite this, one of China’s main problems involves the under utilisation of their capacity for renewable energy. From March of 2016, the government has been implementing new policies to prevent this: The government has called for an emergency ban on the development of new coal power plants, to prevent unnecessary competition with renewables. The government has set rules to guarantee the purchase of renewable energy, and makes fossil fuels plants compensate renewable energy plants when they generate energy that should have come from renewable sources, making it more costly for fossil fuel plants to generate electricity that should have come from renewables Consumption and generation targets have been set, creating incentives for provinces to use more renewable energy | dlg3

10/5/2017 22:46 | "What we are seeing which is quite exciting is if you put arbitrage into the equation you can reduce payback significantly. The smarter finance groups can get a baseline return of eight years payback, based on reasonable assumptions of grid services and demand use etc, but then put on to manage the asset and can get payback much quicker,” he explained. “So the arbitrage play is where I think storage will play out in the UK and other grid markets. The ones that take the risk will be able to pay back on its own, in certain markets I see one or two years payback on systems through pure arbitrage, but it’s a riskier financial investment.” | dlg3
10/5/2017 22:44 | Energy storage has reached a point of commercial viability in the UK according to the chief executive of redT energy, who said the company had now reached “the right price” for an economic proposition. Speaking to sister title Clean Energy News, Scott McGregor said the company’s price modelling had improved in recent months to a point where he is able to overcome previous cynicism towards the UK market. "I've been very vocal up until now about how [general] energy storage doesn't make economic sense in the UK. However we've spent the last four to five months tentatively modelling how to get the revenues laid up for storage, grid services and solar and some arbitrage and we're getting an 8-10 year payback now in the UK, which is pretty good for an infrastructure project. “We believe now it is now commercial in the UK, we've got the right price for the system so it’s economic,” he said. | dlg3
10/5/2017 22:42 | British renewables utility Good Energy has launched a corporate bond offer as it looks to plough investment into a diversification strategy focusing on battery storage and EV charging networks. The company is to complement its existing supply business by moving into both the energy storage and electric vehicle charging network sectors, as well as green business consultancy work to support consumers and businesses adapt to a decentralised energy market. “New technologies and the way we use energy are bringing a modern, decentralised, low carbon structure to the UK energy industry. We are excited about this evolution and the opportunities it creates, and we believe Good Energy is ideally placed to thrive in this new landscape,” Juliet Davenport, chief executive at Good Energy, said. hxxps://www.energy-s | dlg3
10/5/2017 22:37 | The winning project needs to be a 6MW / 24MWh installation, operating at 33kV output for a 25-year lifetime. It needs to be a complete system solution, including SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and battery management system (BMS). The awarded project developer or EPC would also be responsible for operations and maintenance (O&M) over the 25 years as part of the contract. | dlg3
10/5/2017 22:35 | India’s biggest utility, NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) is seeking bidders to add a 6MW / 24MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to a 17MW PV plant in Manglutan, South Andaman. Indian home minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the PV project in early April. Our sister site PV Tech reported at the time that there would also be a separately held tender for energy storage to support the solar farm, which is located on the remote Andaman Islands, several hundred kilometres off the Eastern coast of mainland India. | dlg3

09/5/2017 11:09 | India to add nearly 10GW solar in 2017 Talk about a hot market! It's perhaps obvious that countries with weak or limited grid infrastructure go straight to a more decentralised model, but the fact it is happening at such pace in India, a fast growing economy is still great to watch. Of course this provides huge opportunities across the supply chain, not just modules and inverters, but all balance of systems, O&M and of course EPC's, developers and finance. I'm sure there are challenges to developing in India, but the market is certainly there. Also interesting to note the 33% reduction in module prices cited for the last year. Perhaps if we can finally lose MIP we can kickstart the European solar sector again. | dlg3
09/5/2017 11:07 | This report from the National Grid makes for encouraging reading for the UK solar outlook. With the closure of the ROC scheme last month, I am pleasantly surprised to read that the National Grid view the UK as a 1.8GW market over the next year. With the increased deployment of solar onto the grid, the demand profile is shifting in turn. Last month saw the transmission system afternoon demand fall below overnight demand for the first time in the UK's history due to the amount of solar generation on the grid. National Grid has now reduced their demand forecast for the summer period for the third year in a row due to increased solar deployment. This is proof that solar is playing a very important part in the UK's energy mix. The National Grid’s forecast for the deployment of solar PV systems in the following 12 months are impressive. The grid operator says “Embedded solar PV capacity has increased from 9.3 GW in February 2016, to 11.7 GW in February 2017. We expect this upwards trend to continue, with an additional 150 MW of capacity expected each month for the next 12 months. This equates to 13.5 GW of installed capacity by the end of February 2018.” | dlg3
09/5/2017 10:47 | Investor interest in energy storage is increasing rapidly with battery storage projects gathering pace this year, according to Centrica. The energy giant also predicts a significant increase in capacity market contracts for batteries from here on in. Tim Barrs, who leads energy storage sales under the firm’s British Gas brand, says non-domestic users looking to shift loads away from peak price periods and monetise assets via grid balancing services should plan their investments now to beat the rush. “Battery storage has yet to achieve the widespread ‘bankable status’ that we saw with large scale solar PV”, says Barrs. “But knowledgeable investors are improving their understanding and confidence in revenue streams and I think we will see a groundswell [of investment] by summer.” | dlg3
09/5/2017 10:45 | A “buoyant&rdquo The distribution network operator (DNO) said the surge of interest in storage, virtually all batteries, is creating challenges for network firms and it wants to be allowed to charge for design and assessment fees to cover costs. | dlg3

09/5/2017 10:35 | The German version will initially be available exclusively via E.ON Solar’s Germany-facing website, however the company also revealed there is scope to extend the tool across other European markets it intends to enter, particularly the UK. Last month E.ON announced the launch of its UK-facing solar-plus-storage business, offering domestic solar, battery and energy management system installations to consumers for between £5,000 and £7,500, with various guarantees over performance and savings on offer. | dlg3
09/5/2017 10:34 | E.ON has formed a partnership with online giant Google to help it conquer the European solar market. Described as an “offensive on behalf of solar power”, the partnership will see Google bring its ‘Sunroof’ The online tool gathers datasets including address, roof pitch and weather patterns to help consumers make informed decisions about the potential for solar installations and how the technology can be of use to them. | dlg3
