What a funny post this is about shorting........

grahambr - 5 Mar'09 - 21:51 - 8268 of 8269

When you consider shorting its a bit like this.

I nick your car keys and "borrow" your car without your permission.
I nip down the road and sell it for £5000 to a garage. Then I put out a rumour or I know that there is bad news immenent about your car. Faulty brakes or engine maybe. word gets around and your car is worthless so I go and buy it back for £1000. Then I return your worthless car and the keys. Thanks.
This legal in the share world.

The education system is worse than I thought if a grammar school gets placed in special measures....

Don't worry opmoc, I think I understand. Anyway, I love these boards because there are some interesting characters here - good, bad and very nasty.

I think you are one of the good guys. Difficult to figure out as you mainly post on your own thread. You should post more on other threads.

Interesting too that although we are whittering on into the early hours on our respective threads there are several people reading them right now. The silent majority I call them. Shame they don't want to join in as one or two of them would have alot to contribute.

Opmoc

I'm not that sensitive about my age but who the hell said I was 85?

I popped into your thread just now and I do read it regularly. I said once on your thread that your posts were entertaining and your thread like a diary that would be worth money one day.

Education wise things were similar for me. Fairly bright but a few lousy teachers at school and I just lost interest and fell behind in most of my subjects. Spent the lessons over the park smoking. Mind you, I still played my sport at weekend until the smoking slowed me down. The school I went to was supposed to be a good one but it was lousy for me. I was just the kind of person who needed to be motivated and encouraged to stick at it, but that never came. The career guidance was also pants.

My two sons are a bit like me but my wife does not work and devotes her time to helping them and making sure they don't slip and they are lucky enough to go to an excellent school so hopefully no problems there.

As for the snooker, 85 is very impressive and I reckon you must have had a talent and spent alot of time in snooker halls. I used to play alot but never managed to develop my positional play well enough to get the really high breaks. My speciality was the double and I just had the knack of getting most of them in. The standard in snooker is very high and there are many great players on the fringes who don't make it.

I play with the kids now mainly.

The Red Sea is nice.

When I was a teenager there was much more freedom than kids have today. I used to play all sports with a group of friends and in the area I lived there were loads of parks, football pitches, tennis courts and snooker halls. Top break of 46 by the way.

Nowadays, I am very busy with work and the travel is a drag and the weekends I spend recovering from my week. My kids are at a very critical stage in their education and my wife spends alot of time helping them. We don't do as much as a family as when they were younger.

Evening Ratty.
Would have liked to have dived the Red Sea - mainly the Thistlegorm - but never did. Have been to Sharm a couple of times in the last 3 years and have snorkeled. It's like being in a massive tropical fish tank and that can even be in less than 6ft of water! The wife has always had this phobia about putting her head underwater but she is hooked now.
Used to play a lot of snooker at one time....too much. Played league snooker from the age of 16 but knocked it over the head nearly 20 yrs ago. Great game but frustrating at times. Is there any reason you don't get out much now?

At least the fishing gets you out doors.

I used to be quite a sportsman - running, football etc. Nowadays, a game of snooker is the closest I get to sporting activity.

Have you ever gone diving in the Red Sea?

Not ever dived before but I hear it is a great place for that kind of thing.

Nothing nowadays. Hope to do some bass fishing in the next week or two but not exactly a sport. Would like to dive again but feel I'm too old really plus haven't done it for 5 yrs.

Probably best - I have been dipping in and out with small amounts and made a bit on AFR. I just thought it had fallen to far.

As for fishing, I don't - not the kind of fishing you mean anyway. I really ought to do some more outdoor stuff though. Do you do any sports River?

I got out of AFR when it was in the 80's I think and haven't got back in yet. Market is still too unpredictable for me. Have been keeping an eye on AFR though.
re - fishing tackle - do you fish yourself?
