'The historic secondhand vessel spree Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) embarked upon in August 2020 has now hit the 250-ship mark with news of three more acquisitions.

Alphaliner is reporting the Soren Toft-led carrier has taken the 5,618 teu, 1999-built sisterships Conti Canberra and Conti Darwin as well as the 14-year-old, 2,702 teu X-Press Kanchenjunga.

MSC, which surpassed Maersk at the top of the liner rankings at the start of the year, now has a trading fleet of 4.57m slots, according to Alphaliner as well as a record orderbook in excess of 1.7m teu.'

I have also read that shipping itself might also decline in the future but decided on balance we will have made our money here by then ...if successful.

For a small company this is a big deal.

Maersk 3Q Earnings Beat Expectations but Demand Seen Slowing This Year

A.P. Moeller-Maersk AS on Wednesday cut its demand forecast for this year as the global economic slowdown takes hold, despite posting third-quarter earnings that beat expectations as it continued to benefit from higher freight rates.

"The extraordinary earnings have peaked as freight rates started to decline during the quarter due to weakening customer demand, coupled with markets beginning to normalize with less supply-chain disruptions and progressive release of congestion," the company said.

The Danish shipping giant reported a quarterly net profit of $8.88 billion, up from $5.44 billion, as revenue rose 37% to $22.77 billion. A FactSet poll had seen net profit at $7.89 billion on revenue of $21.57 billion.

Revenue at its shipping unit rose 38% to $18.02 billion, driven by a 42% increase in freight rates. However, shipping volumes dropped 7.6% amid weakening demand and operational challenges, it said.

Underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation is still seen at around $37 billion and underlying earnings before interest and tax at around $31 billion, it said.

Given the unfolding economic slowdown, which is expected to continue into the coming year, Maersk now sees growth in global container demand this year at between -2% and -4%, compared with its previous view at the lower end of its range between plus and minus 1%.

Haggis, a suggestion if I may as you are the moderator of this board? Could you please add a flag counter? I find this useful on other boards to see what interest there is from other countries. It might in due course provide some insight as to whether we are being followed by anyone in Morocco, Utah, Switzerland, Mexico, Panama, or any other place where QFI might be doing business. My hunch is that connected parties might be partly responsible for the recent rise and a flag counter might provide some insight going forward.

I would have asked on the other board but I think I heard somewhere that the founder had passed away.

We are doing well as stable, despite relief rally going on across the board.



This though is a good indication that goods will be on the move again and will need transportation by cargo at some point.


'Oil prices were close to 2% higher in Europe on a weaker dollar and as rumors circulated in Asia that a Chinese reopening committee has been formed, helping to lift sentiment that demand for various goods will pick up in the new year.

SPI Asset Management said that although the oil market looks to be trading on the current recessionary environment, China is an upside driver of oil demand and a reopening would accelerate this trend.'

I've seen a lot of good companies been dragged down share price wise....only to find they get bought out later.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was by those that bad mouthed them....who knows?

Sadly by then they are often at a low price.

Hold on....we are at a low price.
